When a Canadian is entering into a licensing negotiation with a US company, or a company in another country, would it be best to hire a lawyer from that country and/or state, or would a Canadian lawyer be able to handle such cross-border contracts without problem?

Great video which I just now discovered! One thing that would also be helpful to address is the possibility of patent infringement. Even if you do a patent search, there is no guarantee that there isn’t prior art out there or is lurking in the 18-month “black hole” between an application filed and publication. Consequently, how is the possibility of patent infringement handled in negotiating a licensing agreement? This would be bad news if the licensee invested in manufacturing and I as the licensor would not want to be exposed to damages incurred by the licensee. 😮Thanks!

Do I get my idea patented first then I go talk to companies for licensing?
