My family was one of the first black family’s to move in Ocoee in the mid 1970’s after the massacre. My father was one of the first black police officers in the neighboring Winter Garden Fl. After purchasing a new home in Ocoee. We were continually harassed and lived in fear. One day a group of 30 or more KKK members burned a 12ft cross on our front lawn. They also threw rocks through the windows with racial slurs attached. My parents left their new home to protect their 3 children. My parents lost their home as a result. My father Fred Wilson Sr. faced many challenges, he resigned and was blackballed to work in law enforcement. RIP Fred Wilson Sr. former green beret, husband and father of 7 children.
