I actually recall seing this episode at that time. It was so hilarious. It could not have been scripted. Johnny had an apartment in the Ocean Manor Hotel in Fort Lauderdale owned by my parents. He used to swim in the ocean in his speedo and then come to the Tiki bar where I would make him a burger. I recall him being a bit shy in person. Very easy going. Loved lots of salt on his burger.
ОтветитьThey didn't show the part where Ed asked Johnny if he wanted to throw one, and Johnny said: "I couldn't hurt him any worse than you did."
ОтветитьLove how Ed tries to bail and go grab the tomahawk and Carson grabs him and pulls him back to keep him in the moment. Like "Nooo we are riding this out together". Then he waits for a break and hits them with the Jewish comment lol. Comedic timing is fantastic lol.
ОтветитьWhat was the date on this show I saw it live with my nanny great memory
ОтветитьThe funny thing is Ames actually was Jewish lol.
Ответить...I didn't know you were Jewish...greatest line if all time...
Ответитьbest moment ever.
ОтветитьOne of the most hilarious clips I've ever watched, and this was almost 40 years before I was born.
Seriously, what are the odds Ed's tomahawk would land right in the dummy's family jewels? Johnny choosing to milk this moment rather than allowing Ed to take off the tomahawk makes it even better, and him snarking "I didn't know you were Jewish" is the cherry on top.
Perfectly demonstrates Johnny's impeccable wit and timing in a shell. I don't want to sound like an old man, but how did we go from Carson to Fallon?
When comedy was comedy! Now late nights are political junkies. Johnny was king Leno and Letterman were second and third. The rest, forget it!
ОтветитьAmes did a double take with his feet.
ОтветитьI’ve seen versions of this video where Johnny utters one additional line: “Welcome to Frontier Bris”.
Ответитьwhat a classic line-- one of the greatest moments in television
ОтветитьThis is classic Carson 😅
ОтветитьWhat did Johnny Carson say while the crowd was still laughing? I get the punchline at the end, "I didn't know you were Jewish," but I can't hear the bits before that.
ОтветитьI almost died laughing when I saw this long time ago
ОтветитьSure enjoying hearing all the other boomers who remember watching this TS episode when first broadcast!! Mr. Ames was a great entertainer, my folks had several of his LPs, and of course we enjoyed him as Mingo! RIP Ed Ames and Johnny Carson !!
ОтветитьI found this clip because it was mentioned on a Larry Sanders show episode. I’m happy I googled it! 😂😂
ОтветитьI don’t know much about Johnny Carson but he handled this like a real pro
