Sci-fi/Fantasy and Magical Realism from Asian authors is my only saving grace at this point. Plot lines have become so predictable that I don't enjoy reading anymore. Tropes are one thing, a predictable plot and bad writing is another. I will forgive a lot but... the experience of reading is not the same for me. What's worse is that I can't trust reviews anymore because i don't' know who has been bought off. The book world kinda sucks right now. All of this to say.... thanks to your video and research, I have some books I can look into🥲🥲❤❤
Ответитьone of the best fantasy books I have ever read is called Four wings of the dragon goddess by Theodora Quinn. Its got dragons and time travel all in one.
ОтветитьIm new to your channel and I love this ranking! I just realized I have not read most of them! Thanks so much!! I will have them in my TBR for 2024 ❤❤❤😊
Ответитьoh wow this video concept blew my mind!! So many of these are already my favorite (Circe, SOA, Invisible life of Addie LaRue, Babel, Kaikeyi etc), the rest goes on my list!!!
ОтветитьDo you read in Spanish?
ОтветитьCerulean Sea is no longer a stand alone! I didn’t know there was going to be a sequel, but it was announced along with the cover.
ОтветитьYou should definitely read Zeynep Sahra's "Love pie". Zeynep Sahra is a Turkish writer, and I think you should also read another Turkish writer's book, "Liars and strangers", by Emre Gül. I would be very happy if you read it.
ОтветитьGaiman always struck me as a bit of a Clive Barker-lite. Highly Recommend Barker's: The Thief of Always, Weaveworld, Imajica (foremost), The Books of Blood
ОтветитьWell, without starting it: Neil Gaiman’s any book. He is the master of storytelling. Fact. From child books to graphic novel? What he started it turned to gold. Sir Terry Pratchett’s Discworld. It can be handled as standalone too (especially the starting books of each series). It’s just a masterpiece as it is. And together comes Good Omens.
As for Sanderson’s? Of course he is mentioned. He is in the hype loop at this point and by definition they have to talk about all his books on their channel if they want good for the algorithm. That was with Harry Potter back then. Everyone talked about it. Period.
I love standalone fantasy books.
ОтветитьI have been going through the 'top genre/ etc' as recommended by the last ~3 years of booktube videos. I have to sort out many of the duplicates, but the overall list is hundreds of books long.
ОтветитьSome interesting picks. And I also see now that almost zero BookTubers agree with my picks ha ha. Thanks, as always, for including me!
ОтветитьSo happy to see M. L. Wang getting the recognition she deserves for her works. I highly recommend "Blood Over Bright Haven" not only to fans of Dark Academia, but also to the fans of "Full Metal Alchemist" anime.
ОтветитьWhat a wonderful video to stumble upon. Subbed.
ОтветитьLove the video!! ❤ So many of my favorites there from House on Cerulean sea to Sword of Kaigen and Blood over bright heaven 😍
ОтветитьI’ve read 17!❤
ОтветитьFantastic video, You know me, I can't help but be drawn to beautiful data and this is BEAUTIFUL DATA. I find it very interesting how different stand-alone fantasy favorites tend to be from the fantasy series - but it was interesting to see that the top couple of books were still high-fantasy for the most part.
ОтветитьI dont know, a lot of recency bias here. Maybe best books recently??
Seems disrespectful to the shoulders of all the genre giants who came before.
I love the amount of work you put into this Isa - time to update my TBR and wishlist! 😄
ОтветитьI'm so happy Sword of Kaigen won!!! Great list and video ❤
Ответить🔥🔥🔥
ОтветитьAnother great stand alone: Sistersong by Lucy Holland ❤
ОтветитьGreat video! I’d like to get into fantasy more so it is very useful 😅
Ответитьi really enjoyed the Night Circus
ОтветитьI've not even heard about some of these! Wow! Will definitely check them out. Also am so happy No. 1 is THE one :D I read it thanks to you and it is one of my favourites still. And I can't wait to get the The Blood over Bright Haven, hopefully in December.
ОтветитьI loved this ! It looks like it took a lot of effort. I still need to read The Sword of Kaigen.
ОтветитьOhh this is exciting!! 😃 your list is perfect. Your resources are reliable, and I've read most out of your list, these were some of memorable reads and stays with you for a very long time. Thank you for bringing it all together ❤ appreciate the effort.
ОтветитьI was surprised to see The Ten Thousand Doors of January so far up the ranking! There's a lot of books on this list that I have yet to pick up 👀
ОтветитьSo many of these were on my top standalone list too!!! Loved this ❤
ОтветитьWonderful video!! I also did spot my face somewhere hehe
ОтветитьHi Isa, Just a quick update to say that I finished The Graveyard Book and I really enjoyed it. The second half was soooo good. Thanks for rec and for all of your awesome videos!
ОтветитьThe production quality of this vid is incredible!
Ответитьsoy wax?
ОтветитьFun video, and it sounds like you did considerable research for it! I'll be including Piranesi, one of my current favorite standalones, in the fantasy novels course I'm teaching next semester. Thank you for compiling this!
ОтветитьThe House in the Cerulean Sea is definitely one I agree with.
ОтветитьA lot of surprising entries, and many not-surprising ones! It's been a while since I heard The Ghost Bride mentioned, but people who've read it really loved it, I need to give it a try as well! Yay for Guns of the Dawn on the list!
ОтветитьYasssss uno de los dos que yo dije es el n1, otro pin pa mi y otro chupachus
Anda que... estoy apuntando nombres en mi death note por no haber dicho Elantris...
So much effort!! Love your videos! You’re killing it👏🏽
ОтветитьI hope you enjoy this 🤞. Let me know if you did!
ОтветитьI love when you highlight stand-alones! I like that it is still impactful without being a huge commitment of 1,000+ pages
