too bad that in your country, media isn't much interested in history and Dutch history can be called the most overlooked one in all of Europe despite being this much insane and crazy!
The 80 years war, or at least just William The Silent's life story needs a long multiple seasons show like "The Crown" so much crazy shit happened during this era, so many people were present in it (not just Dutch or Spanish) so many famous figures were involved and it still breaks my heart how almost no one seems to be aware

Very interesting documentary right of the bat, it never even occured to me that the Catholic based Conquistadors accepting trade agreements with non Christians would no doubt send chills down the spine of Protestants. I took it for granted that the Church didn't have the power they once had given the Reformation.

I clicked on this not expecting to like it enough to watch such a long documentary on this subject. Unless you're writing your doctoral thesis on the 80 Year's War, this is definitely an information overload. However, it started out good, capturing my interest, and it got better, and then better-er, and better-er-er, best and bestest.

The story of Philip's son's near death experience makes me think that one of the worse thing about being rich in the period is that you could afford to be treated by doctors. Monk mummy magic for the win. Too bad the kid ended up being demon possessed.

Marvelous. I was referred here from Drachinifel's Spanish Armada 3 part series. Now I am settling in to binge watch this series on the 80's year war. I love the narrator's ability to subtly slide in the snark. History is much more fun with snark than without.

No hope in war repent of murder today

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Come to Jesus Christ today

Jesus Christ is only way to heaven
Repent and follow him today seek his heart Jesus Christ can fill the emptiness he can fill the void
Seek his Holy Spirit for guidance peace and purpose today
Heaven and hell is real cone to the loving savior today
Today is the day of salvation tomorrow might be to late come to the loving savior today

John 3:16-21

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Mark 1.15
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Jesus

I wonder why all historians call these non-catholic Christians "Calvinists", since John Calvin would distance himself from such a definition.

Okay, now onto the 3rd series after binging the first 2 in the last 24 hours. Absolutely love this criminally hidden gem of a channel.
I always just assumed Mary knew Spanish from her mother but I guess that makes sense when her mother was shipped to England at such a young age. 5 points to my one college history professor who told me I shouldn't assume anything when it comes to history.

Just what is it with both Roman Catholicism and Islam? Force everyone to convert to their demonic religions or be arrested, tortured, enslaved and murdered.

Where's the love of Christ? Only the Christian path of love and tolerance is the true path to Heaven for we never force others to be like us. Amen.

I guess Philip shouldn't have trusted a French king
According to the Apology, William's letter of justification, which was published and read to the States General in December 1580, his resolve to expel the Spaniards from the Netherlands had originated when, in the summer of 1559, he and the Duke of Alba had been sent to France as hostages for the proper fulfilment of the Treaty of Cateau-Cambrésis following the Hispano-French war. During his stay in Paris, on a hunting trip to the Bois de Vincennes, King Henry II of France started to discuss with William a secret understanding between Philip II and himself aimed at the violent extermination of Protestantism in France, the Netherlands "and the entire Christian world".[11] The understanding was being negotiated by Alba, and Henry had assumed, incorrectly, that William was aware of it. At the time, William did not contradict the king's assumption, but he had decided for himself that he would not allow the slaughter of "so many honourable people", especially in the Netherlands, for which he felt a strong compassion
