Verstappen the current F1 World Champion - but he’s one of the top three sim drivers in the world.

And nobody has done that before - been right at the pinnacle of both sports.

So in a world where being a pro sim driver is a full-time job, how does he do that AND win the F1 World Drivers Championship?

Well, it’s down to his specific technique, so let’s break it down.

Look at this - this is Max driving at Bathurst. One of the most technically challenging circuits on the planet, and he is driving flat out, right up close to the walls - leaving ZERO margin and completely understanding his car.

It's Max’s qualifying lap at the iRacing Bathurst 12-hour last year. He is in the top tier, racing the best sim drivers and teams in the world. He set a time four-and-a-half tenths faster than ANYONE ELSE.

Four and a half tenths is a lot in real-world racing - where conditions can change a lot - making the track faster, or a driver could get a tow and gain half a second.

But in the sim, it’s just each driver and the lap. Nobody else is on the circuit and identical conditions - then four and a half tenths is a massive amount.

Then this - it’s the start of Le Mans Virtual this year. He starts fourth and makes an incredible launch to first before the first chicane - he then runs away with it. Pulling out an enormous lead (before the game crashes - but that’s another story).

He’s racing pro esports drivers like James Baldwin, ex-F1 drivers like Romain Grosjean, F2 Champion Felipe Drugovich - and drivers who have won the real Le Mans 24.

And Max calmly drove away from them.

I agree so much with mid engine weight distribution for getting rotation on turns. It’s crazy how the world record time on Bathurst was set with a front engine vehicle though. Makes you kind of curious about weight distribution relative to elevation changes throughout a track.

Running someone off the track whether they are a lap behind or not is considered a cuntish move, we need to stop saying this is ok, it's not!

My f1 conspiracy theory is that the redbull car is reverse engineered /designed backwards from max’s sim data ,instead of the normal build car ,enter its settings into sim then Use sim. I mean it only makes sense to have a top 3 sim driver and use that to your advantage, that’s why I think checo doesn’t do as well in the same car because it’s literally molded for max

If he prefers oversteer wouldn't a front engine GT car be better suited than a mid engine ? Weight more towards the front should be better I thought ?

Max was born and raised to be exactly where he is today. He probably can't tie his own shoes, but he is one of the best drivers in the world today. Id like to see him drive a winged sprint or a silver crown on dirt

To do something that much daily in different mediums, you have to be addicted to it. Max is extremely lucky that his addiction directly helps him improve his career. Many other drivers may relax by eating out, celebrating, reading books, watching movies, whatever, but Max literally relaxes by playing racing SIMs. It's a huge natural advantage for him. Even if it's not 1-to-1 practice for F1, it still helps and gets him more racing hours.

You need to have predispositions to pursue real racing.
And you also need to have predispositions to Simracing.
There are few people who are good at both.
Most Simracers think that they would go really fast in the real world, just like they do in front of the monitor.
But the truth is that they wouldn't have gone as fast for anything in the world.
And if they tried, they would crash 🤷
Again, on the other hand, I know some really good Drifters and when they try to do the same thing in the simulator, they can't do it.
Yes, simulators themselves now offer a lot, and simracing equipment has advanced tremendously.
But it's still just a simulation and two different worlds!
Which Max is one of the few who can combine.

As someone that has never sim raced without vr at home except testing big fancy rigs at events that i could never effort😂. I would definitely say going that nost likely the switch from real is harder because yes you need to get over fear/build trust and train for the g forces. But losing that amount of senses seems insanely hard.

If he stitches over to sim racing an hour or 2 after a real race, that's the reason he is very good. More time put into a thing the right way the better you will become

I think doing both can be very valuable. I started racing the passes when I was 16 in a crappy NA subaru and it taught me how to corner without grip, steer using weight shifting, and feel through a corner. I eventually started sim racing, and it gives you a place to push your limits. You don't have to leave a safety margin in Assetto when you can just reset the lap if you crash. It lets you push your tires to the limit and expand your skills in a different angle.

that is genuinely insane how he can go from winning a real race to then hop right into a sim to win again. for me i'd want a breather from racing for a few days to recharge. but its like max nowadays recharges during his races after the starts to get ready for sim racing 💀💀💀

Max, Max, Max, I am tired of listening how good is he at sim…

It is TIME for things to CHANGE!
It is TIME for me to get a computer again!

The King of NFS 2 (1995) is COMING BACK!
😂

Hear me now and believe me later - I am going to do it in 3 quick steps:

1. Buying new PC
2. Installing NFS 2 to practice with the perfect machine - Ferrari F50 (my precious 😊) - let’s hope it runs In those modern, fancy quantum computers now…😂
3. After my workout I will install the games in which the record times neesd to be corrected, and the initials as well.

And ONE MORE THING (as Steve Jobs would say) - I’ll beat him with only the keyboard keys - A, Z and arrows! (there were no fancy racing wheels and pedals in ‘95 as well)

The challenge is On!

Peace! 😊
