Fan Request: Medal of Honor Recipient, Sergeant Dakota Meyer | Letterman

we should never forget what our military people have done for us ALL. 2 hundred years ago and now. it's why we sing our National anthem. before events it's a way of getting thanks to our military people and their families. some people just don't get it and they want it to be stopped. morons just don't understand why. my father served in WW2 south Pacific. God bless our military families

Two commisioned officers that didn't send the air support desperately needed were given letters of reprimand that effectively ended their careers. Meyer said that he wasn't a hero,he is haunted that his friends were killed. He later worked for a defense company that dumped him when he spoke out against them selling advanced night optics equipment to Pakistan. The equipment was better than was used by the military at that time.

just met him yesterday at wheeler AAF, giving us good speech about how equip yourself with knowledge about getting out of the army, and some good stories. Seems like a good guy.

He never believed that he deserved a medal. All of his guys were killed. He said that I shouldn’t be getting a medal when all of my guys died. There’s much more to the story than what is said here. His command told him to not go in and try to get his men out. He defied orders when he went into the fight.
