Baldur's Gate 3 - How to save the Masks in Auntie Ethel's lair

Huh. Mayrina was mad at me for saving her.

If you get to level 5 before you try to initiate a fight in the tea house, then it's pretty easy to just burst her down with a speed potion and two fire balls. killing her before you enter her basement, or in a oneshot like the chasm makes it so you can't get her hair which is a +1 to any ability score. I don't know the conditions to make her offer it, but you have to make her go under 10% or 20% health.

i had a bunch of opportunity attack feats when i fought auntie ethel. i also triggered the fight upstairs. she died before being able to run away (literally by the fireplace) because karlach just. demolished her. so doing the rest of the area was... jarring. especially after my friends had such trouble dealing with her.

Yeah I thought I was being smart by knocking them unconscious and removing their masks. Didn't realize until they were all dead that removing the mask while they were knocked out was actually killing them.

I just surrounded her and had my team out her to sleep then jump her. Used an explosive barrel when she went invisible and that took care of it

Can you cast Protection from Good and Evil on the mask wearers? Before or after killing Ethel?

I knocked out all of the masked people my first time hoping I can take the mask off while they are unconscious but I couldn't.

I did it without killing the mask it was difficult but

1. i snuck past them in turn based mode

2. Had the fight with Ethel while trying to avoid killing the mask (forgot about non lethal attacks) so yea it took me awhile

3. got her down to the 10 hp to make the bargain killed Ethel

4. Only one of the 4 took off their mask i had a convo with her i tried to pickpocket the other mask off but it wouldnt let me the other three were wanting me to let Ethel sleep and not disturb her

I just knocked them all out when you first encounter them. After a long rest, they are gone..

Why would you do this just to lose +1 perma stat?

Where are they located after you kill the hag? I kept them alive (non lethal damage) and they were still unconscious when I returned. After a long rest they were gone.

Or you could just kill Ethel before she teleports to her lair. Me and my boy did it all the time in early access, and it still works now.

I just used invisibility potion to get two characters to fight her. I killed hag and saved all 4. I dont know what this does later as I feel I got nothing but boy scout points.

Cool that you found this out. Generally I just set Lump the Enlightened on her. Those ogres are awesome, and if they die it's still a win.

i just killed the witch, save the girl, an then kills the girl and his undead husband

interesting. I wish you could get her hair killing her as well. Does she show up in Act 3 under the bar? Cause that questline leads to legendary rapier I believe if she is alive I think. this game has so many ways to play it. I just found out about Setting Nere free in the Forge. not sure how many times I killed him in other runs. But you can talk him out of being with the absolute and he leaves to renews his faith in Lolth.

Woah! I didn't know the mask did stuff! I killed Aunt Ethel before I went down here, so the mask didn't do anything but let me see things, lol. Oh man Mayrina also hated me because she never saw the evil side of Ethel. I also had to kill everyone with the mask on, lol. They were all hostile.

I killed all the servants 💀 idk which one is which

In Early Access, I killed the hag just behind the fireflace before she could run away. But that didn't break the spell to free her slaves.

I had no idea you couldve even do this. This game is wild

Speed was how I stopped her from taking Mayrina downstairs.
If your party goes first, cast "Silence" on her making sure that Mayrina is in the sphere of influence. A number of ways to get there to take her out downstairs.

The permanent to stats is too valuable

I think you can knock them out, DONT REMOVE THEIR MASKS, then kill the hag, then go back and heal them for the same outcome.

I just did non lethal damage on the masks but didn't realize that if I removed their masks i killed them, maybe if I waited til after killing Auntie they would have lived? I don't know

can you get the stat boost by not throwing her off the cliff and still save the masked people?

Wouldnt you also (havent tested it myself so if someone has please correct me) be able to use non leathal attacks on the masks?

There's 4 masks and you spoke to the two that I managed to spare one time. I want to know what the other two say...I need to do another playthrough anyway to be fair so add that to the checklist of things to do differently. Though, your way was certainly easier than my way of just downing the two that couldn't pass the saves and then running away from that combat until I left it just before getting to the bottom of the cave.

I knocked them out and then took off their masks after Ethel was dead. They despawned after a long rest, i hope i can still encounter them later on in the game.

My shadowheart almost oneshotted the hag with a second level inflict wounds. Holy crap i was shocked how aunt Ethel didn't even have the time to teleport😂😂

Well that was too easy

I fought masks first and knocked them unconscious with that button toggle in passives, and did not remove masks. After defeating the hag and after the long rest they probably left, because no bodies there anymore.

haha, they made the mask of regret the only one you can save. LOL. I do regret not knocking them unconscious and waiting to see if the enchantment would wear off when the hag died

I think the masks are a bit bugged though.

See, I first encountered the battled when I was still too weak. I managed to beat her, but because I said something wrong in the dialogue in her hut, Mayrina hated me and I couldn't end the quest.

So... I tried to approach the quest differently when I was stronger.

Sneaked past the Masks with one while being invisible. Went the opposite site than Ethel was standing, through to the end. There, you activate a shroom circle. Then I came back with the whole party through the backdoor.
I completely concentrated on my fight on Ethel and ignored the Masks (btw, if you kill the mask beforehand, she just summons 3-4 copies of herself instead)
When Ethel was dead, they still tried to fight me, so I knocked them unconcious instead.
Now, the problem with BG3 is, most of the time, knocked unconcious npcs pretty much out as dead. They never woke up for me. But from a commentor on reddit, he said after a long rest, they woke up and attacked him again when trying to speak to them. Yay...

you can kill auntie in her house before she goes to the basement if you're strong enough

No stat boost. I wouldn't do it this way.

Interesting, I am not put on mask and i'm fight against copies Ethel and after kill his, Mayrina accused me, as if I believed her and thought that she would save my husband, but to prove that she wouldn't do it, she didn't even want to listen. In short, I seem to have saved her, but I think to myself, fu*k you, you ungrateful bit*h!

I'm a little disappointed I didn't think to try this, even with Shadowheart in my party. I did like getting an ability score buff from Ethel after beating the crap out of her, though.

How did you get mayrina to not be mad at you for killing the hag? She was mad at me for killing her.

See i knocked them all out. Then i went ahead and pulled the mask off of one of them (instant death) didn't do that again. But after that i went ahead and killed Auntie Ethel, they were gone. Good to know the three i didn't remove the mask from survive.

I only went as far as to pickpocket the mask off of one of them and it instakilled it, so I was like eff this and just killed them all.
