Thanks for sharing this video Johnny it's so Sad that the people had to leave there homes & businesses & were forced out & never allowed to go back is disgusting it angers me to it's the others fault that this beautiful place where holiday makers came to the beach etc is now a ghost town what a waste of land & property left abandoned to Rot that's Barbaric it's so wrong this island shouldn't be divided into 4 it's should be 1 island with both sides living peacefully alongside each other together 1 nation 1 government Cyprus government with peace talks etc everything can be resolved with compromise control is not the answer & neither is violence & bloodshed God created both men and women & children are a blessing from God I'm a Christian Woman this can all be avoided compromise & Listening to each side is the way forward to solve this conflict.

I'm British, and served there with the U.N in the summer before the 1st Gulf war.
I have visited quite a few of these places, and it was some of the most surreal places I have ever been.
The people of both sides were lovely however, there were no illusions of who the aggressor was, and how volatile the situation still is.
I have visited there since and although still a beautiful place, it is now full of the wrong sort of people who are pulling it down in my opinion.
My favorite memories were in a place called ayios nikoliyos (if I spelt it correctly)
Patrolling alone though orange and lemon groves and observing Turkish observation posts, gathering intel.
Barely dressed, with weapon, some smokes, and a book.
Sat under an orange tree in the evening sun just listening to the sound of silence.
This time gave me a chance to acclimatize for what came soon after.

Interesting video, as a Canadian know all about the Canadian Peacekeepers who were there for decades on 6 month tours of duty wearing the blue beret.
