Are blog posts the best SEO strategy today?

Hey Neil! I love your content, insight, and advice. But your passing comments in this video about the apparent diminishing of relevance for infographics disturbed me. I am primarily a content write, but I also get paid to produce a few infographics each month. So, your take on the future viability of infographics for content marketing SEO has me worried. However, it appears that almost "no one" else online seems to share that opinion. Whaddya think?

I hear what you're saying, but don't you think blog posts still work for keywords with low KD? Keywords with a KD of 0, Google actually WANTS you to write content on because people are searching for those keywords and Google has nothing to show people.

Free tools also need link building. In some cases, it's harder to do than for blog posts. Also, it isn't as easily applicable in some niches - sports, for example. Yes, you can do calculators, but they're very oversaturated. And people are smart, no one's going to link to them just for the hell of it.

Neil you suggest that free tools is a way better investment of time and money to drive traffic and get links to your site. Does this apply to a local business with a new website? How would a local business do this? Let's say your a local deck builder what could free tool(s) could you offer to the public to generate traffic and where would you go to look to get these tools built? Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Tools are definitely a competitive advantage hard to build but when you have it it's hard for competitors to replicate. Excellent video!
