Team USA Volleyball Star Kelly Cheng Returns To The Olympics With A Focus On Her Mental Health

In Tokyo, Kelly Cheng and Sara Hughes become the youngest duo to ever represent Team USA in beach volleyball.

The two finished ninth and Cheng started struggling with her mental health.

She began seeing a sports psychologist to work on her "negative self talk” and has since changed her mental approach to competing.

Cheng now works to pass along the importance of mental health care to the volleyball community and launched her Beach Mentorship Camp.

In October of 2023, Cheng and Hughes won America’s first world volleyball championship since 2009, and they are seeking to capture the U.S.’s fifth gold medal in the past six Olympics.
