Baldur’s Gate 1 + 2 Recap (Updated)

I just finished BG3 yesterday. I bought BG2 and only got 2 hours into it. I really did love BG3 & think its the best game I've played in 10 years maybe. I'm glad I got to play BG3 1st and went in blind. The story prob would've have felt repetitive if I had played BG & BG2.

I am honestly surprised at how how reused , rehashed story is in the 3 games now. Very weird writing decision to keep replaying almost the exact storylines. (Big bad needs to do a ritual to sacrifice all his kiddos to become more powerful. Everyone loses their memories to start the game.) and its the same characters repeating the almost same story hundreds of years a part. Why not just make new characters? or why not just have the next game take place 4 years later?

I wasn’t familiar with these much more than a very basic plot, and now I’m realising how much the DnD supplement Minsc and Boo’s journal of villainy is just 5e-ifying these games (among other things that it does less successfully)

as someone who has played so much BG1 and 2 over the years...some of these pronunciations bugged me 😅 Melissan = Meh-leh-sahn, Amelyssan = Ah-meh-leh-sahn

I absolutely love BG1 and 2--still my favorite games in the world--and I am liking bg3, I don't really count it as Baldur's Gate 3 because, despite the callbacks, it is not a continuation of the Bhaalspawn storyline (yes, even counting a /particular/ origin). Yes, there are game series like Final Fantasy and Dragon Age where each game is kind of a standalone, but that's not how this series started. But that's all my opinion.

also don't forget to mention the metric fuckton of mods for bg2 (and 1 to a lesser extent)

How hard was BG1 in 1998? I cheated my characters to straight-25 stats plus the best weapons and armor, and I still needed a dozen or more tries to defeat Sarevok. 😂

Man… i wish Larean had control over other IPs. If they had produced StarCraft 2 in its entirety it would have been a god tier story from SC1 to finish.

Shout out to the folks who played baulders gate dark alliance growing up, only remembering it as baulders gate, and became very confused when he never mentioned clearing our the rates or fighting a beholder.

IMO Baldur Gate 3 is the pure gem as a base of DND game, its just like Skyrim which tons of modder keep working on it with unlimited possibility. I hope Larian give out more modding accessibility on the game

I played BG1 but not BG2, so.. this is nice. So far, BG3 DOES NOT feel like the previous two but still feels like a perfect sequel to the two, it honestly feels more like a Bioware game than a Larian game, reminds me a lot of Dragon Age. It's been a blast so far, I just wish character customization was better. lol

Man, I got 7 minutes in before everything just started swirling into an incomprehensible mess where the words no longer had any meaning.

Korevas isn't "Sarevok" backwards...? It's an anagram for sure, but Korevas is "Saverok" backwards.

I have been really interested in starting this game on ps5 when it launches next month. I have never been a pc gamer but hope to get into it at some point. Basically when I can afford to build a decent machine lol. That being said, I never got the chance to play the first games. This is a really good recap and if I do decide to get into 3 I will be more knowledgeable for it.
