As much as I love words and faces, I love the languages of the hands, the handmade, the hand craft. Hands speak in the precious, precarious uttering we call prayer, extend the heart in mudras of protection and compassion, in blessings and crossing and supplication. The hand speaks eloquently not only in sign language but in handwriting, hand shakes and signals, gestures of impatience, farewell. Hands like flowers at the ends of our arms, starlike and shining with life, they are our most direct point of contact, of outreach.
