4 years on and still not reinstalled Windows and don't feel the need to. Proton can handle most things I throw at it. Still keep a Windows 7 VM but last time I used it was like 5 months ago. I still say nothing wrong with Ubuntu its a great distro for new users but after a while it does start to feel like "My First Linux PC" and you want something more powerful and customisable.

watching this in 2022 and have now in the past month had ubuntu and now arch i was able to get cyberpunk running off of steam within a day of installing and setting up.

Feedback from 2022: So far, it really has made a massive difference. I do most of my gaming on Linux now and the only game that doesn't run for me (that I want to play) is Destiny 2. It still has a ways to go to truly compete with Windows, but it's getting there

Hopefully the steam deck takes off. With Windows 11 on the horizon I'm looking for a way to jump ship.

After you finally found a way to get Gaming Good in Linux, & awe inspiring enjoyment from it...

Then you realize... Your just jumping through hoops the laziest way imaginable to get Gaming working...

STEAM is required to run in the background, Wine & Proton is required to run in the Background,
& then if you run a 3rd Party or non-steam Game, now you got EPIC Games or UPlay or some other
Platform also running in the Background...

Now you've got a lot of things running, but at least you can play some Games...

Why not just play the Game right from your Desktop with nothing
running in the Background & save yourself a headache? ~_~

At this point we are creating a window inside a window inside a window Experience... Kinda lame...

If Linux could run EXE games easily then I would move all my devices over to ubuntu.

I run my minecraft server on ubuntu lite, but apart from that I don't really use it as its always sucked for gaming with EXE games from disc.

If you want to run epic games games on linux, I recommend a tool called legendary which lets you download and setup wine for games from egs.

Edit: nevermind, it works flawlessly, when you have the time and will to tinker a little bit. It easily surpasses Windows in terms of systemload and FPS

Im sorry to do this Linus, as someone who follows you like a religion I have to downvote this video. And maybe its not you its me, but I spent the last 3 days trying to get Ubuntu 20.04 LTS to game with no such luck.

After those 3 days I came to a conclusion. While games available for the Linux platform may work perfectly fine, games made for windows dont work any better if at all than they did before.

I last used Ubuntu about 15 years ago. And while its cool that steam is now available for Linux that doesnt seem to have made things any better. As even with steam I couldnt get steam to open any games. After 3 days and downloaded gigs worth of updates for the games to make them play in Linux I gave up.

Bottom line, Linux still has a long way to go if it wants to be on the same level as windows in terms of gaming. Also, linux hasnt really changed at all in 15 years.

What if all modern games were made for Linux?
