I used to imitate Ewing on my driveway. Shaq was a better athlete than any center I've ever seen but Ewing had more basketball ability.

The battles between Pat, O'Neal, David Robinson and Olajuwon where just memorable. It was pure post work games, not a three point contest such as nowadays. I miss those times.

It’s just interesting to see how much more physical the game was back then…. Them boys played hard defense - especially in the paint..

The problem with shaq was he can only score when he was under the basket and that's all he was good for unlike other centers that score almost anywhere in the paint

I get the NBA changed but I miss this style of basketball. Physical defense, hard picks, post up offense and a silky smooth mid range game.

I was born in 98 but man this basketball is the best skill competition, heart man not the three point contest we have now I love the mid range post up when guys were really going at each others necks to win. Back then it’s just different this makes me miss the 2000s and trickles into the 90s I wish I was born eariler to see this live

What I didn't like about O'Neal at that time was his disrespect towards veteran opponents. Fortunately, over time, he grew up and, as the video title says, Ewing took O'Neal to school.

Good to see Ewing's mid range jumpers frankly I forgot about that part of his game. Shaq was just so strong he didn't have to do that... or felt like he didn't.

When players were perfecting their post moves and mid-range jumpers, the game was more fun to watch. The precision of Ewing's jumpers and his post game was just a beauty to watch.

Another video with proof Shaq wasn't always the most dominant center. Oh he was in his prime. But then guys like Olajuwon Barkley Rodman and sometimes as you see Ewing had his number. It wasn't till these guys retired/got old did Shaq become the most dominant center. But who wouldn't if you're him playing against centers like Dampier, Brad Miller, Dalembert,, Divac, Croshere, Camby, Curry, Chandler or Dwight Howard or Jermaine o Neal. Who while some was decent centers, not in the same class as Olajuwon, Robinson, Mourning Ewing or even Mutombo.

If you have no idea why Patrick Ewing's nickname was the warrior, just look at his battles with Shaquille O'Neal, Hakeem, and Kevin McHale. Then you'll have an excellent idea. One of the few players in the 1990s that had the upper body and leg strength, as well as the game, to go one-on-one with Shaq and make Shaq work at both ends of the court.

People tend to forget that the average center scores less than 15pts 90% of the time. It's a very rare occurrence when your center is one of your leading scorers. It's actually quite phenomenal even in this era where the center position was fundamental to a great team
