This is stupid! You just slum the brakes and go into skid... what's the point? That's not how you are supposed to operate a non-ABS brakes. Slaming brake pedal to the metal is pointelss - gripless tyres will have FAR less braking action then brake pads and disk, so the distanse increases imansly as shown here. But cadence braking is the answer! And it's something everybody accustomed to driving non-ABS cars in a more active/sporty/involved manner just do subconsciously.

ОтветитьI usually slow down with gear & break, stepping on the break & reducing the gear from 5th to 3rd & releasing the clutch & maybe even going down to 2nd gear, it's always worked for me.

ОтветитьWell, the problem is, that the brake system is not the same in cars with and without ABS - so the rear axle would probably not block in a "proper" non-ABS car. This doesn't change the usefulness of ABS, of course.

ОтветитьIt's funny, I used to drive over a steep snowy mtn pass in an old truck and rarely put in 4wd and descended confidently with reasonable speed. Bought a new truck with TC snd ABS and have to put it in 4wd alot and have to descend at a crawl to keep the ABS from turning it into a runaway train.

ОтветитьIf you arent slamming the brakes the results are different. Mainly with older cars or failing speed sensor systems. Gradual braking and defensive driving prevents those slam moments most the time but not every time. Safe travels! 👍

ОтветитьIf I have abs off then I don't fully press the brakes to lock in the wheels I press 75% of the brake so not only the wheels keep spinning still but I have more control when taking turns faster
ОтветитьSee my question is getting more into learning about track stuff, I've seen a few guys with track builds saying that some of the newer sticky tires are giving the abs systems on cars fits or throwing codes. Have you ever had this issue?
ОтветитьIt is also worth noting that lockup is almost as efficient as rolling braking if the low-speed regime, and also that braking distance is quadratic to initail speed. Both strengthwn the effect that the 50% difference we see here is not distributed linearly along the stopping distance, in terms of speed. It'not like "if you'd hit the pedestrian with 20 km/h residual speed with ABS, then you're looking at 30 without it", but rather MUCH worse.

How about doing this again and braking like an experienced driver instead of complete noob.
Why were you guessing the stopping distance (and getting it so wrong) when the the MOT publishes typical stopping distances for various speeds including specifically 70mph (published braking distance 75 metres) in the highway code (that thing you're supposed to learn and know in order to obtain a licence to drive on UK roads)?

ОтветитьДа все что делается все против народа эти изготовители автопрозводители наглецы Начну с абс для чего он нужен Ну понятно что для аварии а как еше иначе это не только мои слова а слова всех почти автовладельцев Абс для чего нужен для того чтобы при высокой скорости колесо полностью не блокировались так почему они должны блокироваться если ты ездишь нормально какие на хер абс я ездил 10 лет на вазе и все ништяк А как приобрёл машину другую началось жесть ну это похож сейчас скажу на что пример ТЫ ХОЧЕШЬ ПЕРДЕТЬ НО ТЫ В ГОСТЯХ И ДЕНЬ РОЖДЕНИЯ И ТЫ СЕБЯ УДЕРЖИВАЕШЬ А ТУТ ПРЕДСТАВЬТЕ ЖИВОТ Не ты контролируешь а абс и он хочет пропускает газы и тут ты свою жопу не контралируешь... и тут с абс тоже так при езде 20клм при резком нажатии на тормоз машина не останавливается пропускает тормоза абс сбрасывает давление вы представляете такое ну это ужас какое та при медленной езде машина не останавливается.... Тут вывод один производитель уебок

Some people pull up the handbrake as if it stops faster, my cousin got hit in the back by someone going 120+km/h and it's so obvious that they tried to use the handbrake only to stop.
The break marks were over 70m

ОтветитьI used to think only the very best race drivers could brake better without abs. But then I had an abs fault at a couple of track days and found myself stopping better by threshold braking. The downside was that I was having to think quite a lot about more ab out brake pressures, whereas with abs I could concentrate more on other things. Those two days did teach me to recognise the onset of lock-up though, to the extent that I now very rarely invoke the abs. I still wonder whether, if I pull the fuse and learn to properly threshold brake, if I might be quicker.
