if you have a disconnect between the midfield and attack, then what do you expect to happen to foden and kane who need service...during the game, nearly all balls went to saka(hence where the goal came in)...its like man utd...people were saying hojlund was trash, until he got the service then he was player of the month. the team is basically based off of how people are performing in their clubs (saka on the wing, and bellingham on the 10) rather than what the team identitiy is. I think its an easy fix if they can sort that out...but that left back postition might be where it the euros could be lost for england.

bellingham alongside rice(bench trent and use him interchangeably with tripps)

eze/gordon - kane - saka....but most importantly...actually having a highpressing high intensity football like mancity or germany on opening day, where you scare teams into fearing to go forward

Big thing you guys miss here for me is Kane and Foden were hung out to dry because of the system.

Just the usual nonsense of trying to fit players in to a system. Southgate doesn’t have the luxury of working on this stuff like a club manager.

So as much as I think Foden is clearly our best player and most creative and technically gifted if he isn’t going to give him that role behind Kane and wants Bellingham to do it then leave Foden on the bench.

Play Saka, Gordon, Eze or Palmer out wide. Just a better balance.

Foden can do that also but he is better with having more freedom which he doesn’t get. He was basically just running around doing a Conor Gallagher role.

Obviously his passing was sloppy so can’t defend that.

Bellingham had a good game, but just did what he did at Madrid, work hard and got in a great position for the goal. But he doesn’t have that killer pass or eye for a ball or link up play that Foden has.

So Kane ends up being isolated and coming deeper.

Foden & Kane were horrible, not sure why he plays Trent CM when his passing options are so limited (Kane - Slow & not a target man, Tripper - not an attacking LB, Walker - didnt overlap much, Foden - not a fast, get-in-behind LW)
