Super helpful video! I've been running larger cameras like Ursa Mini and Alexa Mini for the last few years so it took some getting used to when I picked up a mirrorless again. This guide was detailed and well organized, easy to follow. Great work 👌

Terrific video and we can see how much work you put into it …whew! My only suggestion to you is, you’re such a techie and you do this so well how can you possibly be editing in final cut. Let me be transparent, final cut, sucks. The shot of you out on the street I could’ve fixed your face and the road and the sky perfectly in resolve. You seem so at home with your technology… Challenge yourself and learn resolve. You will be thrilled that you did. And again, great video. I do have one possible question… Any reason to get the FX3 over the a7S3? I really want an EVF. And do you have a favorite gimbal to use with your FX 3.?

Josh, I want to say thank you very much, I am a cinematographer and I am using Venice, Venice 2 , Alexa or so but When I need to use FX3 as a side cam and didn't know anything about it and I didn't have time to spend with FX3 by luckily I found your this video and it helps me in quick period of time. Just a question : I’ve been recording in ProRes 422 externally for obvious reasons and I was wondering how good XAVC HS 4K looked. I shoot in PAL (Europe) so I use 25p for almost all my shots but I noticed that XAVC HS was only available in 50p or 100p. Could someone tell me if I'm missing something, also only a C-fast card can handle XAVC HS but that I was aware of.

You convinced me that it was time to adopt CineEI. Your reconfiguration of some of the buttons is brilliant. You have saved me so much trial and error — mostly error. Hey John ... ! I've learned a ton from your channel... Im just wondering why when panning the image doesn't look as crisp as pull or a push ... have you heard of the 7 second panning rule ? I notice when I pan, even on a tripod my footage looks kinda choppy ...

So wanting an FX3, the fact prores raw cannot be used in Resolve sucks though.

White balance part/zebra usage and using the gray card were really helpful!

I bought one from bh. A few days ago, I photographed a wedding, but while I was filming, It switched to filming for only 10 seconds, and then it turns off. The recording light is on, and every time it stops recording,i press again. I went home and opened the memory, but I did not find any recording. I don’t know what to do. Is there any help, please?thanks

Hi Josh great video and always refer to it. I wanted to ask for your out door run and gun situations apart from using the histogram do you still tend to set the white balance also based ok kelvin value at the time ? How do deal shifty environment changes even after the fact of setting white balance and using the histogram,Any advice appreciated !

How do I shoot slog3 in the other codecs. The 3.0 update took away pp7 8 and 9

Is there any way to adjust sharpness in camera and still shoot in SLOG with the 3.0 update? The log footage seems soft since I've updated the firmware.

Thank you for the informative video. The FX 3s native base iso is 640, but Cine EI’s is 800. To your knowledge, is there any sacrifice in quality when using Cine EI’s native ISO vs the native base of 640.

is there a duel Stabilization if im using the 24-105 lens?

I've set up and been shooting my FX3 like you've demonstrated in this video and I like it. But, Do you happen to have an editing workflow with the Cine EI footage? I don't use a rec709 lut, I've been starting with a consistent S-curve and adjusting the Basic controls, and generally I've notice I've been maxing the contrast, most times crushing the blacks, raising the whites and highlights, and the shadows depending go either way. But pretty aggresive adjustments. Does anyone else have a certain workflow they use?

One of the things I love about Sony is how customizable everything is. Most of the customizations you landed on sound terrible to me, but that's fine because it works for you, haha. I'm glad we can choose how to set up our own gear in a way that works best for us instead of being told what the universal one best way is and needing to find workarounds for all the stuff we won't use.

Hey Josh! Fantastic video! Can't thank you enough. Quick question - when your esiting the Slog-3 footage, do have to apply a conversion lut first (like Rec 709) before any color correction/grading? Just purchased the Phantom Luts too for my FX3. Would the Phantom lut come after a conversion lut if this were the case? Thank you for your guidance!!! 🙏😊🎥
