Here I live, these things are all over. The place I love them turn awesome creatures. When I was a kid they freak me out. I saw some of these, they were about the legs fan size of a silver dollar, maybe a little bigger. It really sucks that over development kills everything here and Florida where I live. Everything is being destroyed, there's nothing much left.

I used to be freaked out by a lot of spiders but I warmed up to jumping spiders, especially when I saw they were keeping flies out of my house and other little pests.

I think a great way to get over arachnophobia is just purely exposure. Instead of killing spiders, catch them and release outside.

Because of videos like this, i cant bring myself to squash these spiders when i see them in my house. In fact, saw one the other day and kinda yelled at it that it needed to leave. XD

I found a little baby jumping spider in my room yesterday, I left it alone and when I came back several hours later it was still there! I took some pictures and got to see its cute little face, then I let it go outside, but now I’m so interested in jumping spiders so this was a really neat video to watch, thanks!!

Zebra spiders are a smaller equivalent here in the UK that have the same curiosity and have quite a good jump for their size. We also have much larger nursery web spiders which are even more docile but their size and ability to hunt pond life puts a lot of people off. I think they are a good sort of treatment for arachnophobes who want to shake their fear because of how safe and easy they are to interact.

I once watched a jumping spider catch a fly in mid air. The fly and spider were both on a window. The spider slowly approached the fly, which caused the fly to take off. The spider had attached a strand of webbing to the glass. It jumped and caught the fly about an inch or two from the glass. It was almost as if it knew which way the fly was going to take off. That was the most impressive thing I have ever seen in person.

I have a question. Couple of months ago I got a jumping spider as well. She is doing great but I've got quite a trouble feeding her. She does not seem half as interested in her food as your spiders. At first I thought I was feeding her food too big but the crickets I currently have are about her size. Im wondering if you would know what could be the problem.

Hello, do you know how to tell the difference between a bold jumper (Phidippus audax) and a regal jumper (Phidippus regius)? I ask because I’ve been seeing some for sale with some looking like one species and then the other species looking just the same. Was hoping you may know the difference. Thank you!

I am terribly afraid of spiders, but someone posted a reel of a jumping spider today on Facebook and I thought she was beautiful. First time I've ever felt that about a spider! I took a screen shot, reverse imaged in Google and learned that she is a Phidippus regius. Became so fascinated with them that I started researching all about them, and that led me here, to your video, when I started asking myself what they like to eat. I have some questions, if you don't mind:
(1) What else do they eat?
(2) How often do they need to be fed?
(3) Probably a stupid question, but how high and far can they jump -- as in, I'm still frightened and I know as soon as one would jump, it'll trigger my fear response (presents as me running away and shrieking like a 10 year old girl)?
(4) As a professional animal trainer, I have trained many animals (dogs, cats, horses, pigs, rabbits, rats, iguanas, chickens, fish - using fear-free training, i.e., no "corrections" or punishment) but I've yet to train a spider. I know I'll overcome my fear once I spend a little time in the company of inner of these cuties. What is the smallest type of food reinforcement that can be used as a reward?
(5) Do they hear? Do they like music? Is it possible to use a clicker to train, or would a light - which I use for fish - be a better choice as a secondary reinforcer to mark desired behavior prior to delivering a food reward?
(6) How large is an appropriate sized enclosure, and what should it contain? Don't they get "bored" or "stir crazy" (for lack of a better word, i.e. avoiding repetitive 'obsessive'-type behaviors that are common in most overwhelmed creatures) in such a small enclosure, or can they live a healthy, long life in the size of your containers?
(7) Do they prefer sunlight over darkness or vice versa for where their enclosure is located?
(8) I have a friend who trained 10,000 butterflies to fly from one reinforcer across a yard to another reinforcer using close proximity at first and then gradually moving the reinforcers farther apart (for a wedding). As long as a creature has a CNS, they can be trained through properly timed and delivered reinforcement. Do you happen to know whether spiders are responsive to training (using high value treat rewards)?
(9) Other than Bob Bailey, is there anybody (perhaps yourself?) who has trained spiders to perform tricks (weave poles, go through a tunnel, jump from one place to another, do an "agility course" etc.)?
(10) With proper gentle, loving care, how long approximately does it take before a spider will no longer fear human hands once they have been paired with reinforcement?
(11) What do they enjoy doing and what do they dislike that I should avoid exposing them to (Sunbathing? Getting spritzed with water mist? Digging or burrowing? Climbing? Drinking or standing in water? etc.)?
(12) What are one or two of the most important tips for raising, ensuring a safe, "happy" life, and potentially training a jumping spider? (Perhaps you have another video where I can find this info?)
(13) What are other food options besides crickets? (Flies? Ants?, etc.)
(14) What is their preferred temperature and humidity level, and do they prefer moist surroundings or dry ones?

Thank you so much for this video, and if you do answer my questions, thanks in advance for taking the time.
... Just watching videos like this of these beautiful creatures has helped me to overcome my fear, although I'm aware that in real life, I'll likely still be frightened... I know once I can handle a spider, it'll help me overcome my fear, though I wouldn't handle one unless it chooses to interact with me first (helping animals and creatures feel safe is paramount before handling or training to me).

I truly appreciate your enthusiasm for these adorable little jumpers! I've subscribed to your channel.
