Thanks for the video. One correction, however. Zhdanov was born in the village of Shtepino, Russian Empire (in present-day Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine... now Russia). Zhdanov is a Russian name (not Ukrainian) and he was a "Soviet" scientist.

I was last vaccinated for smallpox in 1971 in the military with my parents. I have the scars on my right arm, kind of on top of one another. I’m turning 73 next month.

Some version of immunization from smallpox existed in ancient cultures long before the modern era. Lady Montague was a pioneer and feminist ahead of her time. George Washington required his troops to be variolated if immunity to smallpox could not be proven.

Horrible disease. In 1971 I saw a case in the mountains of central Afghanistan. The guy's skin was mostly blister. We all made sure our own vaccinations were up to date.
