You mentioned that Blair asked parliament for permission for Iraq but didn’t mention they gave it to him.

He won that vote, and his argument wasn’t centered around WMDs but around Saddam’s human rights abuses.

An advantage? Totalitarianism here we come. There are nefarious men at work, in the dark, looking to undermine individual and religious liberty yet you say an advantage.

If the laws can change there's nothing stopping us from scenes like the French Revolution thats why l like God because he doesn't change hence evil cannot prevail his law of liberty is unquestionably perfect.

Convention is only as benign as the conventions in the heads of those who set it, convention is no longer adequate for the preservation of our rights; this is why you are less free than you were 30 years ago, and it is why the British constitution must be systemically dismantled

Sadly however, the reality on the ground is that our "human rights" dont exist unless you are rich.
The UK court system is entirely geared around bad judgements, requiring expensive appeals to rectify.
Look at the case of Count Dankula. His skit with the pug was entirely protected by a string of rights, privileges and legal statute concerning freedom of speech, satire, comedy and performing arts.
The reality was that the judge just said "no". He invoked his rights under EU human rights laws and the judge just said "no". The judge literally ignored the inconvenient legislation and rights, and then he had to fund raise and chase an appeal through the courts.... and at every stage they just said "no". They strung him out until his ability to appeal to the EU courts had timed out, and he was screwed. Now if he had unlimited money he could have just taken it to the High Court .... but only the rich and wealthy get to play THAT game.
The UK legal system is a farce, because the judges are a complete crap shoot, and only the wealthy get to have multiple rolls of the dice.

We have the same problem in Spain.. the more ambiguous the laws and statutes of a country the more corruption you know is operating in that nation, that conveniently uses that ambiguity to take the laws which they please and use as an instrument that gives an ends to their means

Utter tripe! This is trickery! Constitutional Law trumps everything when required. We the British have the Magna Carta, FACT! A single defined source of law and the rights, the people are sovereign and the government are public servants including our King who is an equal to all. I suggest you do your own homework peeps! Peace :-) x

Having a codified constitution means there are some things you can NOT vote on. Or at least, it sets higher thresholds than simple majority to change some fundamental laws (e.g. 2/3rd or so).

Not having a constitution just means that the powers that be don't publicly fight about what the rules of the game are, because there are no rules so all is fair in love and war. Unfortunately it is the people of the nation that miss out in those circumstances because the rich and powerful never rule against their own interests. That is how the UK has maintained it's entrenched nobility (which one house of government is dedicated to) despite areas of extreme poverty.
The rules of the game must be written down, and the government must be balanced to represent social classes equally which means if you are to have a house of Lords, maybe you also need a house of porpers, alternatively get rid of nobility representation all together.

The UK doesn't have a constitution as it is a contractual agreement between England irland Scotland and wales.england has a constitution magna Carta and is still in force to this day and will stand for all time so get your facts right instead of putting up false information.

@theshadow5800

Key words…complicated…nonexistent. Sounds like the contract between state/monarchy and people is intentionally vague allowing those in power to basically make things up as they go along to satisfy their needs as they determine. Even more so than in US where SCOTUS unilaterally determines what the arcane 18th century conceived poorly written document says concerning issues of today, totally outside the purview of the white landed gentry male slavers who cut deals amongst one another to preserve, protect, and enhance their personal entitlements while conducting a massive grift of the people. I’m not sure UK’s constitutional situation is any better or worse than in the U.S. Both approaches establish and preserve subjugation of the populace concentrating wealth and power in a few hands, and carefully manage individual rights to level necessary to prevent massive protests, civil unrest, and outright rebellion. It’s a con of institution, hence the name constitution.

WHAAAT?! RESEARCH! please Canada has a codified constitution! The Constitution of Canada is made up of:
1. Uncodified Indigenous traditional law;
2. Other uncodified parliamentary traditions;
3. The Constitution Act, 1867 (codified); and
4. The Constitution Act, 1982, which includes The Charter of Rights & Freedoms (codified).

Yes Canada's and NZ/Aotearoa''s systems are based on on the UK... originally. But seriously, time to do vids on both please! Both these countries have diverged seriously from the UK's template and dare I say both have seriously done heaps to better the original according to our situations. Although not perfect, NZ/Aotearoa leads the world in a constitutional marriage between Maori and Settlers. Modern states grappling with colonial legacies of Indigenous look to NZ/Aotearoa first (including Canada). This is not n area that could/should be based on the UK.

Canada has led the way as an early innovator in constitutional arrangements between a federal and sub-national jurisdictions. TBH this something the UK has utterly failed at and has no conception of in modern terms. The devolution path in the UK looks antiquated and paternalistic. Th idea that Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland get their own parliaments, but England only uses the UK Parliament is as condescending as it is dangerous; it will lead to secession. This doesn't even attempt to pretend the three smaller countries are equal countries in union with England, rather than subjects of England.

These early constitutional foundations has led to a modern Canada that easily recognises and promotes numerous regional Indigenous languages; as well as what we are (should be) most know for, a successful culture of multiculturalism, which is CODIFIED into our constitution. Including:
--the official description of Canada as a "bilingual and a a multicultural country;"
--All citizens are equal and have the freedom to preserve, enhance and share their cultural heritage. Multiculturalism promotes the full and equitable participation of individuals and communities of all origins in all aspects of Canadian society; and
--S. 27 of : "This Charter shall be interpreted in a manner consistent with the preservation and enhancement of the multicultural heritage of Canadians."

Love the UK but the UK is way behind on all of these points. Along with the Nordic countries, the Low Countries and NZ/Aotearoa, Canada' has been a leader in modern connotational and human rights and law--much of that based on our CODIFIED constitution acts.

Sorry for the rant here, but we get overlooked on a lot of things--which I don't care and we don't need to trumpet ourselves--but on this topic no way. We have done and continue to do tonnes of work on this and have offered something of value to the world here, so over-looking our constitution... no thank you.

There are not enough checks and balances. The people must have the power to refute statute that institutes an unfair burden or a totalitarian regime. We need a written, codified, statute of limitations upon the government, judiciary, police, and holders of public office with the ability to issue contracts.

IF THE GOVT BREAKS THE ACT OF UNION 1707 THEN IT MAKES THE UNION OF ENGLAND AND SCOTLAND NULL&VOID.
THE ACT OF UNION 1707 HAS BEEN BROKEN ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS.
