The things I explain in this video also apply to mixing your vocals for music, just FYI.

Something I've wanted to know, when recording is there a way to auto gain so if say someone starts shouting it doesn't start peaking and clipping and the rest is this something that is possible? There aren't any tutorials on such things. If i'm not explaining myself properly I'd say like PewDiePie or alternatively scream singing (metallll)

If you're ever looking to upgrade headphones, I went from the m50x's to the Beyer Dt 880 Pro 250's, with an amp 👌

Can you tell me how I can record guitar/drum audio using my phone? My computer is broken so it's the only thing I have to record audio. I just want it to sound decent

ah man, you messed up in the first step. by summing it to mono instead of splitting to two separate mono tracks you've committed any phase issues to the file. Much better if you gate or automate volume for each channel when the other person is talking.

hey i know this doesnt have anything to do with this video but since its the latest one you would probably be responding here. I'm having a bit of trouble recording my guitar with the blue yeti. I can record it clean, but when I want to do something with distortion I cant get it to sound right. either I lower the volume but then it makes it sound... you know too low or it clips. I dont have any gain on the mic and the volume of the mic in my pc is at 30. Am I missing something? What do I do? I'm new to this so I lack the knowledge...

Hi C-Threep! Excellent tutorial! SUGGESTION: instead of converting Stereo tracks to Mono, go to the track name, there is a "Down Arrow -> Split Stereo to Mono". This way you'll continue having individual channels that sound on both sides - and now you can Equalize and Compress each individual voice/channel separately. Maybe one guy needs more bass (lets say), and the other guy has much louder peaks (so, compression could be done differently for each person). Recording in Stereo is great to have individual control of each voice, no reason to merge them :)

quick question, wouldnt boosting around the 20hz to 30 hz range just add muddiness to the mix?

I just purchased the blue spark but I can’t get rid of the hiss. I did the noise reduction feature but it only reduces it slightly. I have it hooked up to a behringer q1202 usb. Do you have this same issue with your blue microphone.

I would recommend avoiding boosting any signals below the 50hz range. Boosting 20hz for spoken word is not doing you any favors. You’d probably also want to take advantage of using a gate and limiter before doing any eq or compression. Hope this helps.

When I mix vocals in music, I usually cut unecessary frequency first with EQ and de-esser. Then add compressor after that. And some gentle boost with eq/multiband if I need that little compression in it. That way you dont have to worry about boosted frequency that is caused by a compressor. And about that stereo file.. you have to make sure that it is recorded in mono.

Great VIDEO! I have a question...if you have music with voice (like an intro to the podcast) do you mix the voice part 1st or can you use audacity to fix voice with the music on the track????
