Okay, so weird observation, but I also feel the whole Isabelle and Doom Guy being friends meme shows the evolving mentality of gamer culture.
Because I don't think we could've possibly had this particular type meme in the 2000s or even 2010s. I'm fairly certain it would've involved Doom Guy horribly killing Isabelle or seeing her ripped apart by the demons while Doom Guy doesn't bother to save her. Because "screw cute cozy games, how dare they muscle in on REAL games!"
Except time marches on and except for the darkest recesses of dudebro gamers, gamers on the whole have come to accept that games, like movies, can be varied and have genres.
