ОтветитьThe Golan Heights is a plateau located in southwestern Syria, overlooking the upper Jordan River valley. It is a strategically important area due to its elevation and fertile land.
Key points about the Golan Heights:
* Occupied by Israel: Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria during the Six-Day War in 1967 and later annexed it in 1981. This annexation is not recognized by the international community.
* Strategic importance: The Golan Heights provide Israel with a strategic advantage, overlooking the Jordan Valley and northern Israel. It also serves as a buffer zone between Israel and Syria.
* Water resources: The Golan Heights are a significant source of water for the region, with its rainfall feeding into the Jordan River.
* Disputed territory: The status of the Golan Heights remains a major point of contention between Israel and Syria. Syria considers it occupied territory, while Israel claims it as part of its sovereign land.
Additional details:
* Size: The Golan Heights cover an area of approximately 1,800 square kilometers.
* Population: The population is estimated to be around 55,000, with a mix of Arab Druze and Israeli Jewish settlers.
* Highest point: Mount Hermon, located in the northeastern part of the Golan Heights, is the highest point at 2,814 meters (9,232 feet).
The Golan Heights remain a sensitive and complex issue in the Middle East, with ongoing political and territorial disputes.
