Virtualbox (and VMware) is such a superior program over Virt-manager/Qemu. The amount of options it has is staggering. I don't find it slow in the true sense. I've tried setting up Qemu but it has a huge problem: it hides the files in root and it's nigh impossible to get them out or in. I've spent a couple hours trying use a second drive with the thing and despite many threads claiming to fix the permissions issues, it doesn't work. The vm's should be stored under the user directory not var. I've also heard other people assert Virtualbox doesn't really use KVM despite it being in the option settings, but I've never seen it proven.

Comparison of apples to oranges... Virtualbox is type 2. KVM, kind of type1ish.
Can you run your qemu vms on windows? Can you even mount your filesystems? On BSDs?
Virtualbox is universal afaik.
Have not even run one vm on qemu as far as I remember. Have a proxmox server at home though, you're right kvm is superior especially in terms of performance. Maybe even on par with ESXI. But it's not Bhyve on ZFS too. I hardly believe there's ever one right solution for every need.

For example sometimes I love being able to run the vms that normally run on my FreeBSD server from my workstations without clone / export / copy.

One more thing, dual booting is unacceptable on a workstation. This is where vbox comes handy. For example in order to give remote support I don't start the proxmox for 10 minutes, I run a vbox vm to execute the connection on.

The problem? QEMU never worked right for me. GPU passthrough never worked, ethernet interfaces randomly remapped etc.pp.

Virtualbox just worked. VMware just worked. QEMU... didn't.

Hi Chris, the university is teachin us c# and I'm really thrilled to try out linux outside of a virtual machine and best ide for c# is microsoft vs. Do suggest the immigrate to linux and using virtual software in order to run wondows app? And I've tried the bottles and it didn't work

Being free is a big deal. Is it QEmu free? If it isn't, doesn't matter if it's that better to a lot of people. Waiting some more seconds to a distro to boot is not a big deal.

i agree about everything, but some things is harder to set up. Can you make tutorial about set up bridge network in qemu?

For QEMU, I have issues with bridging network adapters. I shouldnt have to go i to cli to make that happen. Whereas Virtual Box. Its a simple Dropdown.
