The EKKA is Brisbane's biggest annual event. Everyone should try it at least once, but it's not gonna be for everyone. Maybe you can save your $39 this year if you watch this...

Yeah the Ekka has gotten crazy expansive since I was a child. Don't worry about not liking the strawberry sundae, not everyone has good taste ;)

I love the Ekka...once in every ten years. The Strawberry Sundae I see it as $1.00, and a $5 donation to charity.

I gave up on the Ekka many years ago. I just don't like crowds. I don't remember that we ever took our son there and he's 23 now, so it must be a really long time since I've been.

I haven't had a sundae in 20 years and i didnt like it back then. I mean its fine but buy it once & you don't need to buy it again lol.

I think it's worth the money certainly once to experience it, & more often if its your thing. For me, i don't think animal exploitation is entertaining or worth paying for, the showbags are beyond shit these days & super overpriced, there's not that much to do overall except stand in lines, get the flu & go broke.

The Ekka is a Brisbane/Queensland institution: a meeting of town & country and definitely worth a visit now and then but not every year. Are the show bags a rip off? Totally but they are an Aussie tradition and have always been overpriced and a bit shoddy. The sundaes are also a tradition.

For me it’s one of those traditions that I look at with an outsider’s eyes: it reminds me that I come from a different and more urbanised world (the UK). So many Australian’s are connected to the country and it reflects that. It reminds you that there is more to Australia than the big cities. Plus it’s a free public holiday so I don’t think it’s worth complaining about.

$20 for a single ride is a bit crazy when you’re in Brisbane and can just take a little drive or train ride to the theme parks and say ride the biggest roller coaster in the southern hemisphere as many times as you want in a day for $95 if you buy a single day ticket to Movie world.

My last time being at the Ekka was 13 years ago and I felt I was a bit old for it. Also, i didn’t think it’s worth it paying for the rides. Better off going to Dreamworld or Movieworld

We came up from Sydney in 1986 when our kids were little and were told "family day is the best". and "definitely cheaper and faster to go by train".
We went.
That was the last and only time we ever went .... parents AND kids HATED it.
We were used to the Sydney Easter show, which I hear lately, has become just as bad.
So far none of our kids have suffered any bad effects.
If they ever might have shown signs of FOMO by not having a show bag, a trip to Coles or Woolies would have fixed it.
They never did.

I enjoyed it. I haven’t been to Ekka for over 27 years due to living abroad. This was my first time back.

Now I didn’t go on any rides. I didn’t even sit down for a show but it was enough. Just walking around & seeing it all was amazing. Such much stuff! Easily a whole day and evening as well!

There was multiple food options so I didn’t think it was too bad & I got a great deal on burger, chips and a drink so couldn’t complain.

I was on my own & a grown man so didn’t get the kids show bags but still managed to get some show bags which I thought was great.

Fireworks in the evening was very cool. A real performance - just get there early for a seat otherwise you’ll be standing!

I went on a super saver day so my ticket was a little bit cheaper too.

I’d recommend it to anyone to attend. Just look around for best food deals (you can also bring your own) and plan what you wanna see. Ekka is awesome & I’ll be back again next year for sure.

Ekka is not for me, I've never been. I grew up in Sydney and have been to the Easter Show a couple of times. When I was a kid my parents didn't have much money and I told Mum I wanted to go to the Easter Show again. So she started saving for it. A few days before we went, I told Mum that I no longer wanted to go and would rather get a Sega since it's better value and I will get more use out of it, so she bought me that instead.

I wasn't manipulating her, I genuinely changed my mind about wanting to go. I got so much use out of that Sega, definitely better value, and probably cheaper than going to the Show would have been, even back then in the 80's.

I’m not interested in the rides and cheap novelty stuff, but I do love all the fine art and artisan competitions. And all the best decorated cakes etc
I even came across some of my brother’s ship model entries and noticed he came first in a few categories. Great way to acquaint yourself with Brisbane industry.

To hell with the Ekka and the Olympics. Move the Ekka to Lang Park/QE2 stadium and build SEGAWORLD at the RNA Showgrounds. And the Powerhouse Museum needs a serious expansion because right now it's just a depressing shed of crap.
