I read the new Dungeon Master's Guide

Even though I DON'T play D&D, I use "Dungeons and Dragons" as a cover-all term when talking about ttrpgs, the same way people use the term "Bandaids" when describing any/all adhesive bandages, or "Kleenex" when describing [nasal] tissues.

A DM should never be a player though, that opens the windwo to many issues. DMPC's, DM's trying to kill they party because they are also palyers. Players have a role that is different from the DM, which is to beat the encounters, if a DM is a player, they need to beat the players. This is important to stablish the DM is not a player, but a DM. DM's job is to lose, but not so easy, they have to earn, but ultimately you want your players to win. I had DM hating players for winning because they can't win and they must have fun to. It is important to separate what kind of fun you get as a DM.

I didn't watch this video til the end, but with a background music the while video looks like huge irony. I'm not your fan who watched all of the videos, but I can't remember any videos before where music was used for anything else other than irony or comedy.

Wotc doesn't want the DM, they want players, which is why they'll be pushing the A.I. dm.

Types of players was up front in the 4e DMG. Glad they brought that back, it was good.

Mongoose has done something similar with their updated Traveller books. For every skill they give examples of what you can do with them.

So far, all you've described is features of the 4th edition DMG, so I'm just going to advocate people read that and save themselves the money on the new 2024 DMG.

Does the new DMG have something similar to Appendix N from the first edition DMG?

I would not compare the Bastion system to Matt Coleville's work. D&D has had things like building castles, towers, temples, and a thieves' guild since early D&D.

How do you make a review without even reading the entire book? It's not even as many words as a normal book, and it's so many pictures and graphs! Like what do you even mean that you haven't read all of it? Did you skim? Are you just not comfortable that you could be quizzed on it or are you just fully not familiar with large sections of the thing?? I don't understand how you can so strongly recommend something that you're not entirely familiar with.

Sounds a LOT like they remade the 4E DMG.

With what I'm hearing here, I am wondering if both the 2014 and 2024 DMGs can work well together?

I'm not calling it D&D 2024. It's D&D 5.5. This is a hill I will die on.
WotC have done too much to damage. Until they are completely restructured, and reverse course on most of their initiatives, they are never getting another dime from me.

That's cool. But right now, I still don't want to support WotC with my money. I feel like so many DnD fans have been threatening with their wallets for the company to be better, and then not following through even though the company isn't being better. I won't be buying the new books.

The fact that people want and need "Consent forms" and need to feel safe before playing is an indication how sad and pathetic we are becoming. In all the groups I've ever played in no one requested consent forms and a first session to discuss safe words and forbidden topics, like no spiders, no snakes, etc it's just ridiculous. Anyone that showed up at a table I was running would just get the boot, no discussion. I don't need a high maintenance player at a game I'm playing.

I, as a player and DM, am SO EXCITED for the bastion system. A previous game I played in ended up with a castle for us and we got to do a lot of customizing it, similar to this, so I'm excited for a rules and to play with it

I bought the 2014 dmg three years ago and have run a couple seasons just going in blind. I now am going to explain to my wife why ill have two monster manuals and DMGs

The biggest thing I wanted from a DMG review is what the new DMG did to help DMs balance encounters. That was sadly not touched on in this video...did that topic get any better love in 2024?

The fact that they didn't give variant rules on the PHB and apparently aren't giving many on DMG makes me sad :\
