Obninsk

The city of Obninsk was not on the map, but the whole world knew about it.
During the peak of the arms race, academician Peter Kapitsa proposed to use nuclear energy for peaceful purpose.
Eight years later, the USSR launched the world's first
nuclear power plant.
The secret "Object B" was located in the Kaluga region, near the station "Obninskoye".
For a long time, Obninsk was a closed city – with special permits for entry and exit.
Obninsk became the first science town:
ten institutes conduct research in nuclear physics, atomic energy, meteorology, radiology, radiation chemistry, geophysics.
Attractions of Obninsk match its scientific profile:
- meteorological tower – the highest in Europe,
- a monument to the pioneers of the nuclear submarine fleet.
Nowadays, the first nuclear power plant has become a unique museum.
