the problem is theres a war between funding, production, talent, and fans. fans used to make very entricate mythology that production historically isnt as concerned with. over time production finds ways to synthesize and even capitalize it to varying degrees of success. Sometimes so much success that the financing tries to banklon that alone giving us the 'cinematic universe' phenomenon. This doesn't sit right with fans, who rail against the financiers and rights buyers, but instead of sythesis they go on a PR campagin, destroying those the core base that sustains those IPs in the process.
Scorsese very much represents the view of the production, who are in proximity to this war, but mostly neutral, asking 'can we just go back to making movies' since it was always about about the cinematic art to them, not the lore and universes
marvel is an infantile mess for illiterate idiots, why pretend otherwise?
ОтветитьThe only criticism I have of your video is that you are overly apologetic. Be less afraid of the nerds, please.
Ответитьnot sure it is dying or evolving ? but one thing that's certain is that cinema is becoming more stupid.
ОтветитьDon't know that koker was the right thumbnail for this...in fact Marty was attached to joker in some way intially
ОтветитьWhat is wrong with not liking or even hating Marvel movies? I do🤷♀️
ОтветитьAll this raises, and even more essential question… Are our own lives to be seen as cinematic or blockbuster based on a comic?
ОтветитьFA17 - one of My colleague has stated that nowadays films don’t have any meaning to it. Let’s go back to the 80s films like back to the future & Rocky & 90s films they have proper meanings & everyday learning. 🎦 films may slowly increase due to the technologies we have today.
ОтветитьWeird, 2y ago it says - but you showed up only today in my 'purview'. I very much like this kind of philosophical talk. You do it with clear speech and evident passion for this topic.
ОтветитьActually in some countries, Movie Theaters are called Cinema.
ОтветитьIs cinema dying? No, but it lost its integrity.
ОтветитьFilm today no longer steals images, ideas, motifs from earlier films -- it steals the film entirely, feeding on it as though modern filmmakers were buzzards hollowing out the rotting corpses of film history. It then regurgitates the films of the past producing a strange, lifeless automaton in it's place.
ОтветитьHow many people on this thread here have watched more than 11 classic films (that you enjoyed) released before the year 1960 down to the dawn of film, have you’d seen (bur also enjoyed) 11 of these films?
Your honest answers will
this question by Thomas Flight.
more than 5 films and LEARNED from them
Yes. Yes, he is.
I dont give a shit about cinematic universes, franchises, tent poles, sequels, remakes or reboots.
Im sick of movies built for dull fourteen year olds, or the entitled man-babies who act like them.
I want stand-alone, artful films made for adults.
Unfortunately, tech directors such as James Cameron etc are reaping what they sowed, it is down to their pressures cinemas rapidly changed from analog 35mm prints to digital and that started the process of transitioning cinema away, becoming a public television rather than a unique experience that you could only get in the cinema, the streaming services are the next iteration of this degradation of the traditional cinema and will eventually win over cinemas as digital won over celluloid.
ОтветитьWhat is there to explain? Cinema is art, your gourmet six-course meal hand-crafted by the finest chefs. Modern, manufactured movies are McDonalds fast food. The gourmet doesn't make money, but fast food does rake in a lot of cash. And when you let corporations have their way, they will erase the gourmet. And corporations are now erasing cinema. Cinema has artistic value and is preserved. Modern movies are churned out for cheap, thrown at us to be consumed, and tossed aside.
ОтветитьJoker was probably the worst film to put in the thumbnail. Out of all of the superhero films, you pick the one that is basically a Scorsese movie (a movie Scorsese was thinking about directing) but with a character that turns into a comic book character only at the very end….
Ответитьmaybe i am too optimistic but i wholeheartedly believe that people will continue to recognize good art and prefer good movies. i think in the years since this video was made we have overwhelmingly seen that most people are experiencing this franchise fatigue, and i think it will be reflected in the types of movies that get funded. honestly, for years now the studios have been really underestimating how smart the audience member is. i only hope that this will come back to bite them in a way that will open up the movies to interesting narratives, and not further shutter it.
ОтветитьPfft! Of course he’s right! You completely overlooked the elephant in the room: NO STORY! Hollywood replaced it with SPECIAL EFFECTS. Got it? Must I make a video about YOUR video?
Ответить8 1/2 was not 4 hours when i watched it
ОтветитьPeople said similar things about Spielberg early in his career, some probably still do. Maybe it is worse but not so much with the Marvel movies, they are done fairly well.
ОтветитьEver since wolf of Wallstreet I can't think of a more theme park oriented filmmaker than martin
ОтветитьScorsece (spelling) has a good idea. Movie going IMO is mostly for children so why not include it in the theme park with the rides etc not to mention the all day commitment adults have already signed up and paid for. I don’t think people in general take movies nearly as serious as they used to. People have so many more options in terms of their free time. Cramming a story into a 2 hour time span is rarely satisfying. It’s a such a rare thing for a movie to be taken serious and actually provoke thought and discussion let alone generate revenue. I love movies and I hate what’s happening but it’s a new world. I myself am not giving half my day to a movie theater and that is coming from someone who despite what I’ve said here, has always regarded cinema as one of my first loves
ОтветитьDrive-in movie experience is still awesome 👍🏽
ОтветитьHollywood- sure. Cinema? Get serious.
ОтветитьYes, he is saying cinema is better than Marvel films. Even if he's not saying it, he's saying it. We all know this. And he's right.
ОтветитьHe is right about cinema dying. He is not right about monvieentertainment dying. That business is growing hugely.
ОтветитьFuckin A he’s right. Cinema is dead.
ОтветитьThere's a better way to experience cinema now, fear not director Scorsese- VR w/ surround sound headphones.
God bless.
No. He is dying. Old successful men think it all started and will end with them. He is great and talented. But he chooses to ignore the talents of new young people who have a different opinion of things. Is classical old generation having no understanding of new generation. The world will go on. Even movie making.
ОтветитьOkay. So let me get this straight--I'm supposed go to a movie theater and pay $15.00 just for one ticket, then if I want some soda and popcorn that's gonna run me another $15.00 or $20.00 on top of the price of the ticket.
BUT I can use that same $15.00 I would have paid for the movie ticket, and see unlimited movies for an entire month on a streaming service, and I can have unlimited popcorn and something to drink and pay less than $10.00 for them.
It's a no-brainer, I can see the very same movies I would watch in a theater by streaming them at home, and I can watch at my own convenience without going broke.
If directors and producers want more people to go and watch their "cinema" in movie theaters, then they better find a way for people to do that for far less money. Because as it stands right now, going to a movie theater to watch a movie is just not worth it, given the overly exorbitant amount of money people are expected to pay for it.
When it comes to movies, everything’s already been done.
Ответитьyes. hope this helps ♡
ОтветитьYes
ОтветитьI sometimes get scoffed at for valuing more serious forms of visual art in cinema. I disregard action films like The Fall Guy, Fury Road, Marvel, Etc. as (mostly) mindless content with maybe some faded fingerprint of value and people get flustered. My siblings, my friends, etc. I don't think it's terrible all the time, but my love for true meaningful story telling and actively engaging with visual art is far more near to my soul than consumption of brain scratching media. After a long day, I genuinely would rather watch a meaningful piece of cinema over a cute/fun Disney film or rom com. I don't experience cinema for elitist motives, I genuinely love it so much! It's not something a lot of people really understand unfortunately. We're bombarded with products and trained by our modern culture to "relax" into a theme park ride-like media with TV, film, & even music. No more. I want to live a life of meaning and grow purposefully, cinema truly contributes to my emotional, artistic, & philosophical growth.
ОтветитьCinema is no dying , yall are so dramatic
ОтветитьI don't trust giant corporate executives, moguls and tycoons, they always ruin every creation, created by their creators with their own greed and simplicity and artificial intelligence.
ОтветитьThe Thumbnail is a completely Fuck-UP from what Scorsese said about cinema...
ОтветитьBoomer cope for westerners are just much dumber now...
ОтветитьEverybody loves fast food every now and again, and more people get it than high quality sit-down meals, but it's no replacement for a good steak.
Ответить>make movie
>Spend millions of dollars advertising it to me and working out deals with streaming companies so I can watch it at home
>Complain I treat it as cheap entertainment
How about you be more entitled? If you want your shit to be treated as some art piece, do something about it. But you can't just do the same consumerist hit as everyone else then complain. "But how would we compete?" - yes I agree, I don't believe in you either.
This is why I hate Disney
ОтветитьShort answer, yes. He's right.
ОтветитьFor me, the difference between cinema and marvel-like movies is something like the difference between digital art and painting or drawing. Of course there is much more to it, but you cant deny there is a big difference just in how they are made: marvel's objective, i feel, is to makes us awed by all the visual effects, the fighting. It's not a perfect comparison, but it was wat immediatly crossed my mind
ОтветитьYes its already dead. Has been for past several years since the metoo cult destroyed movies and shows. Now every film, show and video game are woketard DEI garbage. Art made by and approved by a committe isnt art. Its propaganda
ОтветитьThis is one of the reasons why I don't see 'Mass produced' videos. I believe some videos needs to be treated as cinema. I'm not saying it should be a film or show but it should at least have some 'Art forms' put into it. this is why is on my other channel, I approach my videos as Cinema.
ОтветитьSure, the dozens of fast food restaurants you see everywhere are definitely more attention grabbing, it puts the customers at the forefront, and the quality second. While a prestigious and fancy restaurant puts their quality before it, and gets customers because of that.
ОтветитьAn artist is saying he's concerned for the future of an art form he loves so dearly is in a state of flux, while an advertisement for a credit card company that charges on average 18.49%-29.49% interest rate on purchases is on the podium immediately under him. This is what's at the forefront battle in this day and age. Art and Profits. The movie companies of the last two decades that have by and large seen the highest growth are your A24's, Blumhouse, Neon. Your indie production companies that sit back and let filmmakers make films. Moderate budgets, moderate marketing. No exectives to step in and change things, or chime in. No "audience tested" cookie cutter formula to pump out the exact same shlock after schlock. These people spend years studying and perfecting crafts, just to have a studio step in and change the ending of Act III and bloat the budget with reshoots after reshoots. Let filmmakers make films again that resonate with audiences. Movies should not cost $200 million before marketing.
