If ever there was a sport that encouraged cognitive dissonance, this is it. There is something called a spirit of debate, no more so on view as with the Founding Fathers. There was a moral underpinning to debate based on what was best for the greater good. Therefore, debating wasn't picking a side and defending it until the death - it meant discussing with the assumption of compromise. Is anyone on the far left or right capable of that? As a professional debate bro myself, I can confirm that she is mostly correct here. I will say however that her rhetorical approach is too formulaic for my liking. I'd much rather take an unorthodox approach and just have a good understanding of the subject matter, as well as knowing my sources. You also need to be able to adjust your approach depending on what the debate is on and who your opponent is.
