50k kms in a first gen and loving it. Live in the mountains so its pretty handy and surprisingly fun off road too. Only had normal maintenance to do so, yes, expensive but normal. Bought it for 13k with 100k

everybody hates em and the people who drive them are arrogant twats who take up too much space and drive like they want to bully people of the road. ive seen it experienced it and its not cool. and they're ugly as sin. all of those big old yuppy tractors are the same. we dont have big wide roads in britain or in france but they're ok for the usa i suppose.

bought one back in aug for an insanely good price outside shows heavy wear outside but drives amazing especially in the snow and the interior is very nice, i agree its like a jaguar and range rover but slightly better compared to a rover within the same year, its definitely worth keeping the maintenance and work needed

Telling us how great this car is from a guy who is driving it around for a week and not paying for the repairs is a bit rich. The video I refer to on this car is an actual owner of one and he listed the repairs and the costs over time. I would not wish that on my worst enemy. It is much like owning an old 4 door jag. The status isn't in owning it, the status is in being able to afford keeping it running.

I just recently got a 04 Cayenne S giving to me as the previous owner could not figure out where the coolant leak was and it literally sat in his garage because of that. The gear head i am knew that the shoddy plastic coolant pipes under the intake were prone to breaking i bought metal replacements and now no more leak.

I have a 2006 turbo s absolute monster love driving it. Owned it for 5 years. Check for a vacuum leak on the break booster. I also had a head leak that I fixed. Yes it needs things. But it always goes even wounded. I keep thinking maybe I should sell it before something big goes however, I don’t think it will. Very well built. Never worry about merging into traffic.

I owned one. The twin turbo 4.5 V8. Great comfortable car with plenty of power for the massive weight of it. But... once the electronics got old, it was problem after problem, and not cheap to fix. I had to get rid of it because it was costing too much.

I own a 2004 Cayenne S that I bought with 32,000 miles on it. It now has 70,000 and has sat in my driveway for a year and a half because I couldn't afford another repair yet. The car drives like a dream, handles beautifully too. That being said I think it could have been built a little better to prevent some of the issues I encountered. The coolant lines that run under the intake manifold are a plastic composite that inevitably become brittle, crack, and leak coolant onto the starter. Porsche has known about the problem for years but chose to ignore it. The drive shaft couplers wear out quickly and have to be replaced, the front differential becomes very loud and has to be repaired, the power steering pump had to be replaced, and now there is noise coming from the driver side valve cover area which has me concerned cylinder scoring and piston damage. I guess I was expecting the quality to be higher than it turned out to be. Then when Porsche fought in court to keep from having to repair or recall their vehicles for a known issue I was reminded that Porsche is really just a Volkswagen which are not known for dependability or quality.

Maybe it's designed for the British, behaving like a British car, if you try and take off the rose tinted glasses for a minute, you will have to admit that it's absolutely not worse than anything British, so why the hate, why not hate British cars as well, in Europe we don't hate British cars, but we do say, be critic about British.

Sorry this car looks hideous, combined with the ridicules low mpg and the environmental issue you need as well some mental disease to consider a buy. And Porsche - everything you need to repair gets insanely expensive.

Buying a Porsche Cayenne proves:
- You have absolutely no taste
- You give a shit about environment and the next generations
- You have no clue how the deal with money. You have not enough money to buy a new car but you have the money to run (and assurance) a used old Cayenne?

The only point to buy an old cayenne is when you like to have fun of an off-road tour. Buy this car cheap pray it will survive your trip and than put this car where it already belongs to when it was brand new - the junkyard.

Not sure if the Fiat Multipla, Ford Scorpio or the Cayenne is the ugliest ever build car?

Porsche fan since childhood, 40+ years ago... owned a very early 911 for 20 years and have had 2005 cayenne s for a decade. the cayenne delivers extraordinary performance while being quiet, sure footed, spacious and weirdly understated. I live in LA where understatement is weakness. this is an amazingly satisfying car to experience. rips through tires and brakes; that is my primary complaint because those are expensive items to replace on this car. random failings with this and that but shit, what a joy to drive. your living room with a hulk-like rage potential, if you're feeling up to it.

Thank-you dear Sir. I purchased my 2005 955 Cayenne S, 9 years ago. Oh-man there are things aboot it, that are riterded. Namely HAL… the onboard artificial-intelligence computer. For example: HAL tried to direct me through a car grinder/crusher, when I merely wanted a soapy car wash. 😳
However, there are some intermediate levels of professional development and strength. 👍

Across the pond here in the US... I have a 2006 Turbo S. Paid $16k for it, 80,000 miles. No cheaper, mostly-reliable way to get into the 500+ hp club. The interior on my 2006 gets baked everyday in the hot south florida sun and it still looks new. The headliner is complete alcantara and the carpets look like the kind you have in a Bently (no lie, go look - my mechanic had a Bently at his shop when I last took mine in for service and we compared them). Little stuff goes bad of course, but look at the other options from same time period. Jeep SRT8 - cheap fast (MSRP-wise), but build quality is terrible, interiors are awful, and I haven't seem them age well, plus they have held value well so a good one is 1.5x the price of a used 955 Turbo. Mercedez ML63 - too soft, not as fast, and build quality is spotty. BMW x5 M - great when it works, no offroad ability at all, and DO NOT TRUST a BMW v8 out of warranty, esp an M model. There is a reason the Cayenne saved the company. 70% of Porsche sales are now SUVs. All these nice 911 and 718 variants we currently have exist only because these Cayennes banked the cash. Porsche did its own IPO and is now a company worth more than $100 billion. They overbuilt this car on purpose and it shows. The S models were also winners of the Transsyberia race, which proved these things could do legitamate offroad endurance stuff. None of the other cars I mentioned were even close to the Swiss Army Knife capabilities of these first gen Cayennes. You must have disposal money to own one (like all Porsches) so go into with eyes wide open and you'll love it.
