Pretty sad that EVGA left the gpu market, I have their RTX 2060 Ko Ultra, it's been a great little card for the past 4 years, I may upgrade to one of their 30 series cards, to me tdp & price to performance are equally important, if I do upgrade, it'll have to be something that's double the specs of my current gpu, with no more than a 200 watt tdp.

The power of the 4060 ti isn't strong enough for the 16gbs that are in games my 3070 8gb is struggling with games maxed out like plague tale and it doesn't even go above 8gb the most you need is 12gb for games that do require more like the resident evil series of newer games so to summarize everything this card is useless if you want a 4060 ti get the 8gb the strength of the card won't be able to go beyond even 8gb

The average players uses a 550w or less psu...so y ou go with the push of the 6700xt...now you paid 325..gotta buy another psu..and gotta buy some fans more than likely because it runs hot. Electricity bill goes up substantially as well. In short..4060 is cheaper than an 6700xt in the long run and saves on electric bills.

Awesome video. My 2070 super just broke (overheating issue) and was looking at 4060ti the 8gb. I’m not looking for ultra gaming but as a decent card for the price $400 does it preform okay? On short notice I can’t pay $600 for a 4070 which seems like a better option.

I completely agree with you, well almost.
So here’s my take: if i was a gamer, i would never consider nvidia, especially not now. Amd is almost as good and has far more reasonable pricing. Problem is Ai, it is really hard to get anything running with amd properly even on Linux, and you need vram more=better. And while 4060ti 16gb is very overpriced, is probably the cheapest option to run it, at least satisfactory. I was waiting for amd to do something, but it’s just not getting any better. That’s why at least for now nvidia is only option, this is why you got ridiculous pricing. And it won’t change if amd can’t compete. But for gaming, just get the amd. And you’ll be happy

I just purchased a prebuilt gaming rig with a 4060ti 16gb and couldn’t be happier. Yes, I know I could get an even more powerful card, but the price of 4K monitors are way too high for my budget. Now I’ve been playing all of my games on high and ultra graphics with fantastic results. It’s not too expensive for new people starting out. The bitching just gets old.

Having 16gb on the GPU card is going to be 'the standard.' File systems are moving onto the GPU cards ==> you can't do much with 8gb. Once games+ai apps start moving their file systems over to the GPU 8gb won't be good for much. I'd look for 24gb rsn as the minimum RAM limit on a GPU is pushed upward.

Ответить
@RockwellAIM65
@RockwellAIM65 - 17.12.2023 04:50

Let me explain. The 4060Ti is not intended for gamers. It is intended for low-budget AI gen. The 16gb prevents the GPU from having to switch to PC-based RAM and having to talk to it over the really slow PCI bus.

At the same time, the 4060Ti covers some of the sins of the smaller bus by pumping up cache, giving performance a modest edge for gamers on most 16gb cards. That was the intent. Phase out the 3060 cards and offer a card to the AI folks at a decent price. nVidia doesn't care about gamers anymore... it cares about AI. Gamers are gonna be treated like backwater crocodiles for awhile.

Meanwhile, this is a great card for AI gen. And it's cheap. For us, we would not go to the 4070 or so next. We would go to A100 / cloud-based services.

So there. Now you understand. Gamers are third-tier now. That's just the way it's gonna be.
Meanwhile, this is a pretty good card for gaming. Just don't expect the huge strides you've seen before. Be happy you're getting a roughly equivalent/performant card.

Sorry, yall are pretty short sighted, this card is NOT intended for gamers, its intended for AI/ML users where RAM is King. This MUCH better at ML tasks because of the amount of RAM is s important and a 4080 is almost 3 times as much and a 4090 is upwards of 5x as much money! This card is for AI people that want good enough gaming ,12 gigs of RAM is too little. NVIDIA knows what they are doing and are geniuses.

Well I also care if the card can live until I want to upgrade. price/year.
amd have forced me to upgrade early, because their stuff just die too soon.
The rtx 4060 TI is for people who need more vram than power.
They consume much less electricity than their bigger brothers, so much that you can actually include the savings from your power bill, into the price.

You don't have to apply a lot of features in a game to have it look almost as amazing as the guy running highest settings. A 4060 should do fine for all games out there.
The biggest problem is in multiplayer games, where everyone has their own custom stuff. Skins/accessories.
Having all that stuff loaded simultaneously, require vram.

Also if you use upscaling, you properly can go lower in calculated resolution, than people are atm. I like to see some testing on that.
And all those features applied, seems like wasted power, because some of them are included in other features.

Now there are like 49 gpus in their product lineup that from bottom to top is a console generation leap in power. WTF!!

I don't hate it because got it for fair price on a flash sale on Black Friday (much less than a 4070 for my case), 16GB even on 128 bits makes a good difference for stutterings and frametime issues, expect in a year or some months according to game releases 8GB VRAM getting struggling even on 1080p like what happened with 6GB cards.

There was confusion with the 3060 because there was an 8 gig version and a 12 gig version.... also an 8 gig ti version that actually performs better than the 12 gig non ti version, yet no 12 gig ti version. That said at least its clear that the 4060 16 gig ti version is clearly better than the 8 gig ti version. If they just made a 12 gig 3060 ti most of us wouldn't even give a sht about the 40 series at this point in time.

Unfortunately, I happen to be a bit in a niche situation. AMD is not a good option for me because I need CUDA cores for some neural network experiments, and also AMD's GPU down-scaling is messed up, which is important for me as a visually handicapped programmer. So I have to stick to Nvidia. I don't quite need a high-end GPU, being more of a tinkerer than a gamer. I'm still on GTX 960. I did not get 1060 because 960 was "good enough" for me at that time. I almost considered 2060, but then some other stuff happened in my life and then 3060 came with the insane crypto craze, so I wanted to wait it over. And now we have this stupid situation with 4060. Definitely, I don't want to buy an 8GB card, knowing that I upgrade rarely, so I would like something more future-proof. 16GB is so tempting but the price of 4060 Ti 16GB is just stupid, 520 EUR. Maybe I should buy a 3060 12GB. But frame gen and CUDA cores of 4060 are a really tempting factor. So maybe I should wait a bit for the rumored SUPER with the hope that 4060 Ti 16GB will get cheaper or if SUPER will offer more for the same price.

Really doubt Nvidia will be able to keep up it's dominance (at least on the gaming side) once AMD and Intel reach better parity when it comes to those extras unless they cut the price and make sure these things are actually available. Ray tracing performance will get better. I'm done frothing at the mouth to buy the shiney new gpus. I am blessed enough to have a really good gpu now but yeah I overpaid. It isn't a good feeling and where I probably wouldn't even think about buying anywhere but nvidia in the past but now I'm dreading the idea of even trying to get a new batch. One recommendation everyone, avoid 4k monitors. You can get a great ultrawide oled monitor for about the same and I really can't tell the difference in games and out I got used to it in minutes. That'll quickly fix your "need" to get better frames. Just my two cents.

I remember paying 1000+ for a shit tier PC in 1990 and it was normal (try being upset about $1200 in 2023 vs 1993). For those of us who need vram / CUDA and dont just game - this is not a bad gig. It is also very power efficient. For those upgrading from a 1060-1070 it's also a massive jump. Gamers have to one day understand tech advancements we saw from 240p - 1080p were insane and never happening again. We can stuff a trillion polygons and 8k textures, but it won't pop the same as going from a n64 to a 360. Each advancement will be small and expensive imo.
