Please stop spreading clichés. The story that you earn money in the lower registers and the thumb registers are just for fun is as old as it is wrong. The explanation of the thumb position is just as false. If you had studied according to Ludwig Streicher, you would know that there are 4 different thumb positions, which are used as needed and that there is no general rule. The same with pivot positions - if they are necessary, they are used. You way of teaching reminds me of the old masters who taught a dogma here in Vienna and ruined a lot of students - but at the same time never reached the virtuosity of others - with the stupid orchestra requirements argument. Sad, by the way: your job as a teacher is to motivate students. You do the opposite. Empathy: non-existent, tact: 0. The student is at the beginning of his journey. Through your behaviour, you have the effect that he does not even start this journey, demotivated. Besides the orchestra, there are countless other possibilities to make music professionally: solo, chamber music, duos, bands, etc.
