FYI - In Dolphin you can hit ctrl + a to select all roms and right click convert selected files

Wish I had never used PBP non of my emulators will even let me download thumbnails for them...the few files I have that are CHD load fine? can I batch convert from PBP to CHD?

I’m trying to use psx2psp to batch convert my ps1 ISOs to .PBP files but it just keeps converting a few games and then freezing and doing nothing. What am I doing wrong?

Can PSX2PSP work with other consoles like Sega Saturn etc? I have Panzer Dragoon Saga but when I put the first track of each disc in PSX2PSP it doesn't seem to recognise it.

I'd still use chd for multi disc games with an m3u. CHD is smaller. You can import an m3u into a RA PS1 playlist. Only displaying 1 file for a multi disc game. It's smaller and works the same as the pbp. Same goes for m3u's in Duckstation. You can exclude the chds for multi disc games displaying only the m3u in the game list representing a game. Good video. Do you know how to revert chd files back to multi bin tracks? CHDMAN reverts them and combines the multi bins into one. This is problematic if you trying to make a redump set. I can't find a simple way to do this. Would appreciate a response thanks.

This wouldnt work for me. I have a MAC but it won't let me upload the .iso file :(

My concerns are:
1) Can this process be reversed, just if, in some cases CHDs get unsupported by emus in the future or of you do a bad copy of your ROM? Extra disk space sounds convenient but not worth if I’m going to corrupt and redownload my collection of games.
2) CHDs have bugs/longer loading times/stabilities issues against the original ISOs?
3) CHDs are compatible with the current emulators benefits like upscaling the graphics, cheat support or texture mods?
Otherwise I prefer to stick with the big ISOs and .bin + .cue files.

Converting bin to pbp with psx2psp is annoying AF, it almost never works properly. I don’t understand why most of the time the converting process stops at 98/99% or it says 100% but not “done” and only option is to abort.

Thanks for namDHC recommendation. It's such a good program putting the commands in Chdman was hard for me. Also I'm surprised how much I have to manually convert most rom sets are in bin/cue.

Please don't use PBP! It's lossy compression, unlike the lossless CHD. That means you're compressing it by taking a hit to the quality, and PS1 games do NOT need any reduction in quality, haha. You're also unable to restore the original clean file, which means you won't be able to apply any patches.

I used the PBP format but it does not have much compatibility with Retroarch and does not download covers or accept retro achievements so I discovered that compressed in 7z format if you load them take up much less space and are compatible with Retroarch and its achievements

side note: you don't actually need to make an m3u OR PBP to play multi-disc PS1 games in DuckStation. you just need to exit full-screen, keep the emulation running (unpaused), click Change Disc and switch to the next disc that way.

also kinda emulates the feeling of swapping discs on actual hardware only instead of opening the console and physically swapping the discs, you're opening a file menu and clicking on a cue or chd file. same amount of time anyway.

if i convert my PS1 bin/cues to CHD, will that break save state/memory card compatibility in DuckStation? or will everything still work as if nothing changed?

ive got Gran Turismo, FF7, Metal Gear Solid, Rayman 2, Tombi, and Ridge Racer Type 4 save data i do NOT wanna lose. but i also wanna save space and switch my PS1 library to CHD.

How does the RVZ file work? Is it lossy compression? Can I convert the file back to the iso file type if I were to use it on original hardware?

Can you please explain why you had the cue files for each of the bin files with final fantasy VII if you didn’t need to load them into psx2psp? The cue files keep messing me up

Thanks for the video. So, I did all steps and converted to CHD as you said. I can see them on my steam deck now, but when I click on the game, I get the message it will load, but then it shuts down before loading. Any clue why this is happening?

Hey russ, thanks for the guide! I've got a more or less specific question. I've got my hands on a miyoo mini plus and already set it up with onionOS. While converting my PS1 Games to squeze them all on the sd cart I stubbled upon my german Version of Final Fantasy IX. It's 4Disc game so I have 4 bin and 4 cue files to beginn with. But additionaly to that the EU Versions of the game needs an sbi file for every disc to circumvent some security restrictions. Do have an idea how to convert the game to a pbp file while taking the sbi files into account?

I successfully converted to PBP File with 3 disc. I put it on the rom folder for PS in my Trimui Smart Handheld. But then it is not reading the game, more like the game is not appearing on the list. How do I fix this? Help
