The wind cries Mary for me, so warm and clean. Band of Gypsys tone is incredible too. Page on Tea for one, Greg Howe on Pay as you go, Ry Cooder on the Crossroads movie, George Harrison on the beginning of Strawberry fields forever. Mark Knopfler on Alchemy's Telegraph road, David Gilmour on that break after the intro of Shine on you crazy diamonds (those 4 notes), Jimi's wah on Up from the skies.
ОтветитьNo surprise to me I'd enjoy Tims picks and just like the like the other guys are unknown to me, so too are their choices of what a cool guitar tone is!
I equate their choices to saying Dylan and Petty were great singers!
I guess I'm just old and boring but to me Duane Allman, Leslie West, Warren Haynes, Les Paul, Brian Setzer, Joe Walsh (and I could go on and on but....) but with all your esoteric psychedelia keyboard sounds I'm blown away none of you guys mentioned David Gilmore (also on my list!)!!!!
There is so much to learn from these four music-pro guys! OK... One of my favorite songs: Marty Robbins "Don't Worry". It turned out to accidentally be the pioneer recording of the Fuzz Guitar sound... Due to an old, failing (not functioning normally) vacuum tube in the signal path. In other words, it sounded great... And the studio team decided to keep it in the cut! Unbelievable (but Absolutely True)! Wow, What a great story!
ОтветитьDo a part 2
ОтветитьTrey Anastasio and Elliott Smith are the 2 that i have gleaned the most from
ОтветитьPeter Greene, David Gilmour, Billy Gibbons…this is a very, very incomplete list.
ОтветитьThis is before watching but I better see dimebag on here edit: biggest L ever
ОтветитьDavid Gilmour?
ОтветитьReally enjoyed this super well-informed discussion. Learned a lot. Thanks! Love the tones on that whole Sheryl Crowe album so I was happy to see that one come up. The lead tone on the solo to Brothers in Arms is my personal favourite. Knopfler has truly special fingers I believe.
Ответитьi came across tim by chance, i liked his videos , now i know who he is,duh, cool guy, and happens to to the top ten,sit me down, wow
ОтветитьRobert Blunt from Robert Plant's solo work is the first one I thought of.
Ответить80’s is not what what I think of for tone. But each his own.
ОтветитьYou all need to listen to Big wreck. Ian Thornley is probably the best guitarist and song writer on the planet.. his guitar solos definitely make Eddy do back flips in his grave lol
ОтветитьSRV live at the Greek Theatre
ОтветитьLove that ex "Captain BeefHeart" Guitarist Ry Cooder is here Twice
ОтветитьAlbert King "Ain't Nothing You Can Do"...
ОтветитьJohnny Winter on slide..
ОтветитьSorry folks, but Hedrix had ALL the tones way back in the 60s, and if you actually listen to his concerts you can tell he was into massive experimentation with tone. It also varied concert to concert.
ОтветитьGreat episode! You could make this “20 great tones” a weekly and I’d watch every one
ОтветитьJerry Garcia # 1 or this list is a zero and is just a bunch of fools talking nonsense
ОтветитьGlad you got a guy that knows country/Nashville. You oughta get Chris Scruggs on your show. Talk about multi instrumentalists.
ОтветитьThere are 2 on here that i have to include thats less talked about id say. Roy Buchannan's tone on country boogie a blues instrumental is insanely vicious gnarly and blows you away. The other is Peter Green, His lead tone on the live version of it take time on the The Warehouse Tapes record live in 1970 with Fleetwood Mac is so rich, so dynamic and loud, the notes are blooming like a cherry tree in spring and its sublime.
ОтветитьEric Johnson Trademark..the whole song but particularly that soaring solo
ОтветитьI always thought Eddie’s tone on “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love” was his best. But yeah, amazing stuff.
ОтветитьThis guy sounds like Eminem
ОтветитьBurt Weedon.
ОтветитьShocked to see 2 Tom Waits numbers, but not Marc Ribot's dirty, lilting Cubano solo from Hoist That Rag. Great video
Ответитьpleaaaseeee bring Blake Mills to the show 🙏🙏🙏
ОтветитьVery interesting, but you missed an opportunity with any of a number of Frank Zappa tones.
ОтветитьI just learn so much from you guys.. My deepest and sincere thank you (you know, the one that money cano't buy) hahah
Ответить“Magic Man” by Heart would definitely be on my list.
Ответитьso no Clapton beano record?? 59 les Paul and Marshall combo amp cranked? these weren't tones should have been titled best 20 effects
ОтветитьSo many guitarists I like didn’t even make their lists. I think that’s fine because there’s so much uniqueness in everyone’s playing. David Gilmour’s solo tone on “Comfortably Numb” is just incredible. Hendrix on “Burning of the Midnight Lamp”. Alex Lifeson in “Hemispheres”. Eric Johnson in “Righteous”. Joe Satriani in “Summer Song”. And a list of probably 10373962 others.
ОтветитьIan Thornley of Big Wreck...His tones are chef's kiss.
ОтветитьY’all should do another part of this.
ОтветитьIt’s crazy someone opened up with Blake Mills. I only discovered him maybe a week ago my life has been FLIPPED upside down. His style has gabbed my attention and won’t let go hahaha
ОтветитьRitchie Blackmore, Mikael Åkerfeldt, Santana, Louis Shelton on "Valerie", to Mick Taylor, Dave Gilmore and of course Hendrix. To name a few.
ОтветитьEr, Tom Scholz, particularly on 'Don't Look Back', needs to be up there. I'm from Manchester, England and that scratchy, toppy, soaring distortion, takes me over the Atlantic Ocean and onto a US highway, sun blazing down and a feeling that anything is possible. It's a unique and rather incredible guitar tone.
ОтветитьAnd ... we need a drum sound video like this one please!!!!
ОтветитьThis is brilliant. Kept waiting for Mark Knopfler (in the thumbnail) through the whole video ... Loved every minute of it though.
ОтветитьSpecify which music is represented. To leave out the classical and jazz masters in your blanket title is an insult.
ОтветитьThe best vintage guitar tone today is from the brazilian artist Tim Bernardes
ОтветитьJack Conte, the only snob I can stand.
ОтветитьMaybe it's because these songs aren't my bag, maybe it's because I'm dead inside, but their enthusiasm for some of these pics makes me want to vomit.
ОтветитьHello do you knows Brian May doesn,t play whith a pick he plays whith a coins all time.
ОтветитьBuck Dharma of BOC and Greg Sage of Wipers.
