I calculated the correct answer without algebra. I worked the problem backwards. Using logic you know that the man had to enter church number 4 with $50 in order for it to double to 100 then subtract 100 to get zero. You then can work backwards through each church to obtain the correct answer.

What if the label is not wrong for sweets ? This logic fails and no one tells such thing clearly in interview

For the second one, is it not that he had 200$ in his pocket before entering the church? Because, amount doubled to 100$ means he had 50$ towards each church visit. Which sums upto 200$.

At the last church, by solving 2(8x-700) -100=1300, not 1500

The last question. Nearly any statement he makes about the future can’t be the truth or a lie. It hasn’t happened yet. So if he says “you are going to hang me” - it’s neither a lie or the truth. If he says , “I believe you are going to hang me it” it is either a lie out the truth but the officer can’t tell whether it true or a lie. So if the any one sakes the question the answer I’d give is - the question is written by someone with a poor standard of English.

The question is about finding out about the candidate being able to challenge a bad question.
