Finally...A Simple and Indisputable Caliber Comparison Chart!

There is a few problems with this theory.

1. 9MM has a muzzle velocity of (1100 - 1400 fps) and a muzzle velocity of (400 - 750 Joules).

The variance is the problem, because a .50ae has a muzzle energy of (1000 - 1600) and a muzzle energy of (1600 - 2200 Joules) with a 40% increase in bullet diameter vs 9mm.

If this the case the .50ae is 2.3 - 5.5X 9mm, what will be the I will pick?

2. Does this mean that each .50ae missed is the same as missing 2.3 - 5.5 9mm? Cause 20 rounds of 9mm vs 7 rounds of .50ae means I cant make that many mistakes.

you know, seeing every bullet in terms of 9mm gives me an idea. let's compare muzzle energy of each bullet with 9mm and see what we get. I'm doing my calculations in metric (joules rather than footpounds) to fit the spirit of the original video (making fellow americans angry and confused)

9mm luger = 679 j = 1 x 9mm
.380acp = 280 j ~= 0.4 x 9mm
.357sig = 686 j ~= 1.01x 9mm
.40s&w = 635 j ~= 0.94 x 9mm
.45acp = 559 j ~= 0.82 x 9mm
10mm = 880 j ~= 1.3 x 9mm
.327fed = 590 j ~= 0.87 x 9mm
.38spc = 270 j ~= 0.4 x 9mm
.357mag = 790 ~= 1.16 x 9mm
.44mag = 1155 ~= 1.7 x 9mm

I read a study that said on average 80% of the shots fired miss in a self defense scenario. So my math says a six shot 44mag would only have 1.2 rounds on target compared to 4.6 rounds of 9mm. The math doesnt lie. I will still take my chances with the 9 every time

There are a lot of other factors besides “power” or muzzle energy to consider.
Shot placement is 100x more important than “power”.
Cost and availability of ammunition as well.

Some gun owners want the reliability of a wheel gun.
.38 +P JHP is more than adequate for self defense.

In fact, I know a few retired LEO who carry .22mag.

What about size of the gun? I know some people who went for the big gun and do not carry now because the gun is too big and heavy which does them no good, so you have to subtract the final number altogether. Now I know some who went with a smaller gun and carry it everywhere, even when wearing shorts and a tee shirt. That should have an addition to the final number.

44 mag won't do you good. If there's multiple people and you gotta defend yourself. 6 rounds VS 4 people with 20 round mags.

Are you factoring chamber in the barrel length? Also, with revolvers there is pressure loss between cylinder and barrel.
