I use spotify for discovery, then buy Vinyls for Albums that I love. I plan on dropping spotify eventually.

I can't stand Spotify. Nothing but ads and crappy music. The recommendations they gave me always sucked, and now I find an mp3 player from 2014 more entertaining as a method of listening than that stupid app.

As long as the major record labels continue to gobble up 70% of Spotify's revenue each year in music royalties (which they will likely do so given the oligopolistic of the music industry giving them insane bargaining power over Spotify), it seems the only way for Spotify to make money is actually via diversifying away from music, and find new ways of monetising its users (e.g via podcasts) where the margins are much better. I consider myself left of center but identity politics is complete bullshit. Let trans people live their lives like anyone else. Who gives a shit? But this sports thing shouldn’t even be a conversation and it’s completely insane. If there’s a woman skilled enough to play in a man’s league, they’re allowed as they should be. I had a major release once and was approached by Warner, the boiler plate of it was Spotify doesn’t allow something called Payola (paid to be played and not disclosed about this) so I’ve always avoided playlist placements when approached by 2 record labels the first thing they offered me was Payola and they paid Spotify to put me in one of those playlists, keep in mind Payola is illegal asf so I didn’t do it and my career went from 20,000 monthly listeners to less than 1,000 I sometimes wonder what would of happened if I took the deal maybe I should of but either way my ethics were in the right place just need to push harder!!!
