It's not a Mk7 Golf R, it's a 7.5, that's an important difference, as more BHP in the 7.5. The Ed 45 Clubsport would compare better with the Mk7 R... although AWD of the R would still kill it off the line.

I don't quite understand why the Clubsport was driven in D instead of S.

I have a Clubsport myself and the difference between the two settings is huge, the gears are extended much further in S.
