There is irony in that there are way more “games” designed to further education in the prosecution of war and fewer on the prosecution of diplomacy. Both of which channel aggression in different ways. An interesting tell on the state of humanity.

So I am curious. Why don’t they use software to help run their games? I mean it seems that with code one could create a game that would facilitate the mapping of numerous pages of rules into 8 pages of rules. By the way, why does OCS always get pounced on as a complex rule set? It (and ASL actually but a way smaller rule set than ASL) are one of the clearest rule sets I have ever read/used. 😄 Regardless the software would hide the extra complexity, but still present a UI with the decision space covering the 8 pages of rules. Although I have never built a VASSAL module, I bet a domain specific language (DSL) could be created that covered the necessary grammar for such rules. If VASSAL does not allow the inclusion of JAVA class files or a jar file, I’m sure some one could modify it to allow such modules. Anyway I’m curious why software is not used … or is it, and that feature was just not touched on? I did catch something about Excel spreadsheets. It was a really interesting discussion. I highly recommend it. 👍👍🙂

On BGG someone posted a NBC news video of a professional war game on the Chinese invasion of Taiwan. There were Congress people there and it really shows what is discussed here. I will try to find a link and post here if I can.
