Why Don't Old Games Work on New Computers?

Older computers had boxhead style monitors and the machines had optical disc drives.

If you somehow managed to do so you might encounter poor optimization issues while playing them on a modern system since older games are poorly optimised for the newer technology.

I still have multiple old desktops I use for older stuff. It's still fun to play around with them to this day.

New Windows are without DOS,16 bit support,and dont have not direct hardware access.Old Games won,t work.

Virtual Machine might be the best solution.

They're not intended to run on the modern systems but some of them will work and run with no issues at all.

I got a fancy stationary PC with cores and all and an older laptop win Win7 on it.
The oldest game to me is Jagged Alliance 2 (1999) which is the reason why I bought the lappie but still haha

Windows 7 isn`t supported as you all may tell but I can`t run Spotify or Messenger as an app but I run them as a browser tab and it`s cool, not really an issue to be honest

You didn't mention this but for win16 applications you can use WineVDM. A fork of WINE for running windows 16 bit applications on 64 bit windows ...

Crysis worked on windows 10 22h2 simply by running in compatibility mode for windows vista on less powerful hardware you may want to put back to windows xp service pack 2 it will work but you can find mods to make more playable on modern systems

Also OTVDM Emulates 16 bit software from windows 3.1 and 9x era on 64 bit systems and works on latest version of windows 10 may work on 11 because windows 11 and 10 shares the same nt version

Bully Scholarship Edition had issues on PC if you have Windows 10 where it crashes after 20 minutes of gameplay.

Been trying to get The Sims 2 to work on Windows 10 and it works.

If you pirate them however they will work.

Have VMs of 32-bit OSes (Windows 98, MacOS 9, Amiga, etc.). DOS Box can run Windows 3.

or you can just use cracks, patches, emulators, custom launchers, etc and play pretty much any game on just laptop with win 10 x64 system for free...7mins wasted

The 32bit 386 and 486 an windows 95 had NO problems running 16bit applications.
Why do 64 bit systems have issues with 32bit.

I've been collecting all the CDs and DVDs I've burnt from over the years (since 2000). Well, a hefty percentage of them anyways... How did I go from starting with a Compaq that runs programs and games great (which also burns discs with ease) to an Asus Chromebook that I have to connect USB external DVD drives (to just view the memories)? I've thought: It's a change in tech, I'll give it a shot (I'm gonna miss the ol' good times) 🥲 to I miss when I use to buy CDs 'n DVDs and play 'em, saving everything I've done on blank CDs 'n DVDs, collecting them, then adding to an awesome archive (along with some interesting kept mods from times gone by) - SD card? Like when I just used them in cameras? Um, I'll use them I guess - It'll be like when I did on CDs 'n DVDs, right? Right? Hmmm, I miss recorded and collecting CDs and DVDs. . . 😞 Oh well, I better get use to SDs and data "in the clouds"...

Just Buy Your favorite old games from GOG and That's it.
