Possibly the best and most realistic explanation of BJJ ranks…and how they should be viewed by the individual player/competitor. White belt is captured by the same mentality as the proverb "youth is wasted on the young". I wonder if upon reaching black belt, there should be a white stripe to start where you regain that freedom and low expectation until your blue stripe…and so on. Just the reward of getting to refresh those 4 'junior' belts again with the wisdom and eye of a black belt. Roy produces the most exquisite videos in small amounts. He is the educational epitome of quality over quantity.
ОтветитьI started 4 months ago, did my first tournament one month ago and i m really enjoying white belt, i like it unlike many others that are in a hurry to get blue.
ОтветитьA famous MMA team here in the Northern part of the Philippines with no actual rolling experience promoted their players from no belt or white belt to purple and even brown belt. What can you say about that?
ОтветитьSeems like a really cool instructor. No ego
ОтветитьGreat insight- 👏👏👏
ОтветитьSo a Black Belt is like well knowledge player becoming a white belt again
ОтветитьWhat about the red belt
ОтветитьWell explained. Thank you !
ОтветитьBelts are a waste of time and most blackbelts will get destroyed by an average wrestler 🤷🏼♂.
ОтветитьI’ve always thought the brown belt is the coolest belt there Is, I can’t tell you why I’ve just always thought that. I’m a white blue belt, close to my blue belt. People under estimate me greatly. I’m able to go neck and neck with the blue belts, it’s very fun. I’m just learning how to survive, but when I flow and just trust my instincts and just go it’s so fluid
ОтветитьWhat a Wise man !
ОтветитьWhere did you find this background music ??
ОтветитьWhat if you excel in bjj and surpass the belt requirements except age can you get to the brown belt and be under 18
ОтветитьI hate having a black belt. I don’t feel I deserve it and it’s depressing.
ОтветитьI've been in the arts for over 47 years. I have High ranks in Kempo, Karate, TKD, Kung Fu, aikido. That being said I just joined a BJJ school as a white belt and I love it! Starting over can be a blast!
ОтветитьI feel blue belts have targets on their backs by white belts.
ОтветитьVery good Video. Oss
ОтветитьI'm whatever color my shoes are....brown shoes brown belt 🤷♂️
Ответитьbeing a white belt is fucking amazing haha. no pressure and all praise as long as your respectful and work hard
ОтветитьOss master . The best explanation about the feelings through the times ... after 10 years or more like me (17 years p)racticing , take care about your true motivation ! We feel better when we find this kind of teaching like yours !
ОтветитьSage words!
ОтветитьI'm 55 years old and just started learning about a month ago most students are like 40 years my junior and they think its cool an "old man" wants to learn something new.
ОтветитьThis video just popped up and as I clicked on it I realized I was at this seminar hahaha. Legacy Jiu jitsu, Anchorage Alaska 2019 I believe… maybe 2018
ОтветитьI am one step before all that...i will start September and i feel nervous
ОтветитьAs a Blackbelt who coaches lots of other BJJ practitioners across multiple location I totally agree with this perspective. Well said. Oss!
ОтветитьReally loved this it was awesome and as a creaky blue belt it made a lot of sense. Thank you Oss
ОтветитьI stand here as a Grey-Black belt really exited for what the future holds in my BJJ career
ОтветитьBJJ teaches us all that in life we can lie or bend truth add a filter to a picture or make excuses covering our mistakes! But on the mat you are what you are and you can simply not lie your way to a black belt, you are at the level you are for a reason! If only life was as humbling and rewarding to teach us such lessons!......
ОтветитьAnd red belt is when you have transcended mortal limits and your name has become legendary.
ОтветитьHe has a really good attitude about bjj ranks. However, when belts are involved, everything becomes a little bit too "authoritarian." I'm also hearing that Brazilian Jujitsu is now being "watered down" in North American schools (I won't use the "M" word) for commercial reasons.
ОтветитьI'm so eager to begin, cant believe I had never come accross this before in my life. had only vaguely heard about it. My grandfatehr learned jiujitsu in japan when he was stationed there during the korean war, this stuff is so epic
ОтветитьThis was better than how my own trainer taught me about the BJJF🤦🏾♂️😂
ОтветитьAt 43, I'm still a white belt in life.
ОтветитьThe guy sitting next to Roy needs some serious stuff to treat his ears
Ответитьas a purple belt i get passed by lower belt but i rock on top. so until i improve my bottom game i stick to top for now. but actively work on my bottom game.
ОтветитьThis is a REALLY good bit of info!! Makes me want to stay a white belt lol
ОтветитьDean of mean. I shouted you out on my friends podcast today. Your channel is one of two I use to supplement my learning and journey with ju jitsu in japan. You get tons of messages here. I asked you before about Yuki Nakai. Just for clarification.
ОтветитьWhat a great teacher. Lucky lucky students
ОтветитьGreat video. It’s short, simple, and to the point.
ОтветитьGreat overview Roy
ОтветитьI feel like this is the definition of a teacher
ОтветитьCan’t wait to get my purple belt, so I can skip the warmup 😍
ОтветитьWell said
ОтветитьWhy worry about the belt? The gi is where its at!! Got the same blue hayabusa gi as that dude 😎😎
ОтветитьI'm a blue belt, and I love jiujitsu. It's more like a really fun game to me. Win some, lose some.
ОтветитьBJJ school structure is the most dysfunctional one in martial arts history. This is why BJJ has soo many drop outs.
ОтветитьYour the best.
ОтветитьI love being a white belt... I'd rather be underestimated than overestimated... 😂
ОтветитьThis is by far the simplest explanation regarding bjj belt rankings. I am proud to say I am a whitebelt! It's not the rank really it's how fun and challenging learning Jiu-Jitsu is.
