That ten dollar bill is in no way illegal. It's only illegal if you attempt to defraud someone with fake currency. There's fake currency EVERYWHERE and in TONS of private collections and museums. It's in no way illegal in any state unless you try to pass it as something that it is not

You can absolutely own counterfeit money only illegal if you try to spend it as legal tender

It is only illegal to possess counterfeit money if you know the money is counterfeit and try to use it to defraud another person. Simply posseting a counterfeit is not a crime so long as you did not manufacture the bill. My grandfather and grandmother and aunt are/were bankers and my grandfather collected some bills he came across.
