Imagine if Brightline had the infrastructure for the new Avelia Liberty trainsets. It would’ve clocked the plane in every category.

Hey guys, I wanted to drop these comments when this video first drop but I’ve been busy. I use Bright line from West Palm Beach to Miami airport. you know there is also a local train there called Tri Rail that goes right into the airport and it takes me two hours and 13 minutes to go from West Palm to Miami airport. One day Tri Rail was down and I used right line from West Palm to miami station and went out the door of line made a right and walked back about 100 feet and went up to the rail station that’s located right next to Bright line. I got on the orange train and ended up in Miami airport 15 minutes. I will do bright line in the future to my airport because it was so easy.

FYI - The last news I heard was that Disney has rejected Brightline's offer for a station at one of their properties. Rumor had it being built at Disney's transportation center in front of Magic Kingdom. Then the rumors switched to Disney Springs. Either way, it appears no stations will be built for Disney. The newest rumor is a stop will be built at the Orlando Convention Center. Which is across the street from Universal's Epic Universe. This will all be part of Phase 3, Orlando to Tampa.

I feel like it would probably be less stressful if you took the metro from downtown Miami to MIA airport? Although I think it wouldn't really be faster, particularly given how little traffic you encountered this time

The Brightline has been a great option when moving from and to places in south florida, I don't take it frequently due to the price but when the tickets aren't too bad it's a no brainer
Even in coach it's just comfortable, clean, great service and all around just nice. Like it was mentioned, for locals to the area it's much better to take BL if you wanna travel between places in south florida it just makes it easy, I can travel to Miami and check some places more easily and without worrying about traffic. I hope they open some more stations because it's just such a great service to have to move around this area of florida honestly

It's not all about speed. Trains are for the most part way more comfortable...you can get up and walk around...go to a dining car...bigger bathrooms. I'd take a train anyday!!!

Brightline only reaches 125 mph on 7% of its route. The rest of the route is either 79 mph or sections of 110 mph interrupted by 20 mph drawbridges.

People need to stop hyping up speeds that Brightline can't sustain. It's just dishonest.

Fascinating. Sure, in this case flying is faster, but it's not THAT much faster. All in all, the train seems a far more pleasant experience for this particular route. Goes without saying that the train advantages might be seen to fade as distances increase (LAX to NYC, for example), but this was a great thing to examine.

If gov and brightline consider to remove at grade rail crossing in the future (building flyover / underpass for replacing grade crossing) upgrading rail and add more rail lane double track or double double track to separate the freight train and more speed i think 2-3 hour trip is possible....

Of course the plane is faster, if you don't run into weather delays, but you have limited daily flights between Orlando and Miami, versus 32 daily trains between the same cities. With the train, you can get a ticket cheaper than the plane if it's within a week.

God I hope this takes off in the US! That and far better public transportation. We let the car take over our lives and it's miserable. For those who still love to drive, think of it this way, this could remove congestion from the roads making driving more relaxing and enjoyable.

Domestic US flights, depending on airport, about 30 minutes before boarding.
It used to take us 15 minutes from our Phoenix Apartment, to the Centurion Lounge.
Longest time it took us was 22 minutes. Did not matter the time of day.

Considering that price comparison is between premium service on Brightline and regular coach price on Delta, it's pretty much a no-brainer, even with a 40-minute time savings.....when you're lucky.

Good review, but I can’t agree with your comment about the food offerings in Premier - in our experience there is not nearly enough of an upgraded food & beverage offering in Premier to justify the very significant extra cost vs. the Smart fares. They need hot food offerings, better coffee and more confident service.

It was not fair. First of all, you did not made the same travel. The comparative should be in the same direction. Second, you did note wait for uber when arriving in miami and run during all walk. Third, you walked instead running during airplane step.
And when you compare time to work, you considered all tine in train travel but you did not realize that all time you were at airport you would be able to work .

Good video but lets not even 125mph is a myth...they can hit thet for a short run of the route...a lot of the route is 95mph max and in the WestPalm to Miamj section, it's 75mph max.

I still hope this gets popular and so fhey can grade separate the whole distance and increase speeds actoss the board ..they still cant do 125 all the way gause the route has some sharp curves but if they get it faster it will bw even more popular ans attractive to potential riders who would fly... currently its a better comp agaisnt driving but still good video overall

One thing that in my opinion is important to consider regarding the luggage factor is regarding if you are traveling with checked luggage sized bags. I agree that the train is probably better overall if you just have carry on sized bags. But if you have large bags they can be rather cumbersome to navigate through train stations with, get on a train with, and find space for them. If the train is full this can be difficult. But, in general, train operators are more lenient with allowing you to excess and oversized baggage without paying additional fees.

The train is very competitive, especially for the price. Times would be even faster if they were as fast as the Frecciarossa in Italy (up to 250mph). Prices would be higher, but still less than a plane.

Come on Federal government, put more funds into high speed rail — we need better transportation options. The United States, by conservative estimates, spends $5 trillion dollars a year on car travel. The estimate includes ALL expenses that can be quantified, including infrastructure costs. If we have enough alternatives, car travel can be reduced. A 20% reduction saves a trillion dollars per year. Cars are not going away, but we need a lot more rail transit.

Back in 1996, I've flew from Miami to Orlando and it sucked because it was on American Airline Airbus A300 wide body plane and we end up in the middle 4 seats witch sucks because you don't get window seats, but on Brightline train, you get window seats because there all narrow bodies planes than travels on the rail not in the air.

I travelled from Orlando Airport to Miami last August. Less than 2 weeks before the new Brightline station opened... Had to take the bus which annoyingly took about an hour longer than the train. I wanted to see what the journey would've been like on the train and from your video it definitely would've been a better experience in terms of comfort and speed.
