its honestly stupid that they assume the shuttlecock will always land at the front. being pro players should be unpredictable so they should stand at the centre part of the receive area

Sorry for the late comment. The spin service is not the same as the "Sidek" serve (will explain below further). This is with striking the cork only. It is not a new. Back in the late 60's and early 70's there was spin service used but due to the very low tension of the times, the spin was more centrifugal and could not wobble the shuttle unlike today with high tension. "Sidek" serve requires the shuttle to be inverted, cork side up and striking both feathers and cork at the same time. Inverted service was used in China much earlier and could not be shown internationally as China than was not a member of the International Badminton Federation. The "Sidek" brothers use it in the 1982 All England tournament.
