I like McDonald’s coffee 😅

My theory is that coffee industry experts just really want to drink hot kombucha, but call it coffee LOL. I'd be curious if in a blind tasting, they took flat kombucha, and gave it to a table of coffee experts, would they recognize the difference.

Costa Coffee is daylight robbery. £4+ where I live for that garbage. I'd rather drink tap water

I go back an forth on this. Often when I get coffee on the go I'm tired from working or driving . I don't want terrible coffee but something generic that's been brewed recently is good enough. I was on vacation recently and went to a few independent cafes of exotic pour over, first it took a long time (around 8+ minutes), was expensive $6, it also had a very unusual taste that while it wasn't bad I truthfully didn't care for the taste because it was so odd. Maybe I could grow to appreciate it but most people are going to react the same way to a fruity sour tasting exotic cup of coffee.
I think why James thought 4 was Starbucks is because their coffee tends to be darker and stronger than other mass market coffee. McDonlds is weak and they often put too much cream it in, Dunkin Donuts is very tame boring coffee that lacks any bite or characters. It's not bad just very generic and so is most other chain coffee shops.

the only way i down a starbucks is with a shot or two of espresso, it comes to around $5. would rather go to other small shops, here in NYC there’s a lot of good ones

I'm actually blown away by this, but only because I think Costa is absolutely dreadful. Maybe I've just had bad baristas but it always tastes like someone has diluted burnt tyres whenever I've had to drink it. McDonald's on the other hand, while not a great coffee, is reliably drinkable (but then they have bean to cup machines so removes the element of human error).

My guess before watching.......Tim Horton #1 & Dinkin #2 is my picks !!
Edit : WAY off I thought this was a "pick up and go" coffee shop tasting.

Yes I’ll drink all of the chain store coffees but a good independent makes a huge difference

Coffee snobs are the worst

I have been to Starbucks in many different cities and I have had good and bad coffee. They are not consistent. I have also been to a Starbucks where they gave me someone else's drink.

I've had McDonald's coffee once, and it was so bitter that I couldn't finish it. It was horrible.

My local specialist barista says there is a rumour going around that Starbucks purposely over roast their beans (even though they are good beans), so that their American customers buy more syrups to mask the taste a bit, which have a huge profit margin.

This is really interesting. For my taste, Costa is significantly more enjoyable than Starbucks coffee which I just cannot drink. Independent shops, I find, have noticeably better coffee but I've had lots of variance with the same shop - one day the coffee is great and the next is a bit dull.

Starbucks???? It is as awful as its reputation. The only decent commercial coffee I have tried is from Au Bon Pain.

I once tried McDonald's coffee and it was like drinking brown dishwater. I tried it again at another location and the same garbage coffee. Never again!
