I just adopted one from a shelter. He has been severely neglected. Cherries in both eyes. Underweight. Sores all over him. I pick him up tomorrow and he’s going straight to my vet for complete check and medicine. I wasn’t looking for a bulldog, I went to shelter to adopt a mongrel. I saw him, he’s been there almost a year, nobody wanted him because of his health issues. I want to give him a great life for whatever time he has left. Any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. And yes, I know it’s going to cost a lot of money

I wished people would realize that it's all in the diet! Dogs DNA is 99.9% Wolf, so what do you think they should eat?!
My dog is almost 12 years old because i switched his diet! Diet matters! Have been to the vet excepted for checkups.

I got a bulldog for free and was the worst financial decision of my life. He blew out his right rear ligament requiring a complete knee rebuild. Then he had his right eye operated on three times. One surgeries for his eye lid dropping to low which was then overcorrected which caused a ulcer to develop which was undetected due to the surgery of the eye lid so they had to graft part of the eye to cover the ulcer so it could heal. Once that healed they re operated on his eye to correct the over correction. All the eye surgeries caused dry eye in that eye so he is on eye drops the rest of his life.
He has environmental allergies which causes itching and skin infections. So we put him on apoquel which at the time had no major side effects listed and was highly recommended by our vet for long term use. Only to realize three years later that a study was done which apoquel has a high rate of cancer when used as a long term drug which of course he got cancer. A stage 3 (high grade) masscell tumor on his front right leg. So a surgery to remove that as well as the nearest lymphnode which luckly the tumor had not metastasized too. He then went threw 8 rounds of chemotherapy which took 12 weeks to complete. After that they took him off the apoquel and now gets cytopoint injects (90mg doses) to control the itching and a medicated shampoo bath twice a week for the rest of his life. He gets chronic ear infections and chronic skin infections at least three times a year no matter how much we bath and clean his ears. All in all we are over $20k in to this dog over the last 3 years. Be ready if you decide to get one to have a walking loving vet bill.

If you made it this far know one thing he is the most sweet loving cuddly dog I have owned except for maybe my pug. My bulldog is worth every penny we spent on him just be willing to foot the bill if it comes to it.

Pet insurance recommended it! As you do need to take them to a vet sometime and the bill can be high

I’ve never once met a mean bulldog. Despite their past as fighting dogs, it seems that modern bulldogs are almost physically incapable of being aggressive. They are always the sweetest dogs out there and they are great with kids.

My 8yo EB has never had health issues the only visits to the vet has been for castration and his vaccinations. He was specifically bred to rule out health issues and he had larger hips and he has no respiratory issues. However, he still needs to avoid the heat ofc and he snores heavily. If you do want one, get one that's specifically bred for the health of the dog not the frog features. FYI yes he still looks like a bulldog

People have really effed up bull dogs, pugs, frenchies. Short unnatural faces, difficulty walking, can’t breed on their own, can’t walk properly.

I'm a veterinarian- no one should get a bulldog or any other brachycephalic dog. Those inbred monstrosities are prone to so many illnesses and live in chronic pain as they older. But hey, they look "cute", especially when they can barely breathe.

A woman called the cops on mine when he somehow got out of the yard (Karen, is that you?), she apparently told the cops that there was a dangerous Pit-Bull outside. The police reaction was sort of funny when they realized it was a lazy bulldog. 😂They had to explain to the woman that a pitbull and bull dog are not the same thing.

They definitely require a lot of maintenance, making sure they get their wrinkles cleaned, keep their ears dry, etc. Such a great breed though, they're so funny, worth it just for how much they'll make you laugh

A middle aged bulldog came into my life quite randomly a few years ago and even though we only have about 4 years together he’s definitely young favorite dog. But I could never own one again, I think that’s a common sentiment with bulldog owners

It’s crazy how money, greed is messing up the breed it’s GETTING HARDER,HARDER to find bulldogs that really look like bulldogs… I seen ppl breed a Beautiful female English bulldog to ugly,UNHEALTHY looking bulldog just because they have MERLE in them and charging 4K-8k pupps same thing with females that are unhealthy looking using an Amazinggggg Stud thinking they are gunna come out amazing ..gunna sell pupps 4K-8k But Heyy EVERYONES A BREEDER NOW right….

Before the Merle’s came ithink the norm price were around 1k-3k correct me if I’m wrong I’m not sure just a Wild guess tbh … and Beautiful English bulldogs by the way
