Gatwick Express could of ordered more Class 387/2s that would cope with more passengers travelling into Gatwick Airport to & from London Victoria and Brighton.

Is it recommended to purchase the Southern train direct return trip from Gatwick to/fro Victoria via the online ticket (about £27 return trip) or just use the contactless credit/debit card.. which is £9.50 per way as shown on the TFL Single fare finder site?

I believe 9.50+9.50 is just £19 for contactless BOTH ways (during off peak) which way cheaper than the online ticket, but couldn't find any website that confirms this. Thank you!

What's worse is that Gatwick Express and Southern use the exact same type of train with the only differences being mechanical. as far as passengers are concerned, the trains are identical.

Southern is always late and Thameslink is more likely to get you where you want to go

Is the Thameslink and Southern the same? Do we buy the tickets at the airport? Can we pay with Oyster card that we would get at the Gatwick airport? Also when we go back home, we will be coming from Oxford? What is the best way? Thank you

There are 3 operators, Gatwick Express (Owned by Southern)
Southern
Thameslink

I'd argue Thameslink is the best operator to get into the heart of London. The stations they call at from Gatwick in the central London area

London Bridge:
- 10 minute walk from Tower Bridge
- 15 minute walk from the Tower of London
- Change for South Eastern services to Cannon street in the City and Charing Cross, Charing Cross is less than 5 minutes walking from The National Gallery and Trafalgar Square and the Admiralty Arch with views down the Mall towards Buckingham Palace, 10 minute walk from the London Eye and Westminster. It's also in the West End area of London

London Blackfriars
- Less than 5 minute walk from the Tate Modern

City Thameslink
- 5 minute walk from St Pauls Cathedral

Nice video. LGW Express was better in the days when it was possible to check-in at Victoria station (the former BUA terminal) and then take a dedicated airport train.
