Made this a few times. The potato flake trick is great. Leeks are pretty expensive here (I wish they were $1 USD each) so a few big onions is a decent replacement. A small amount of milk does fine as well and usually have that in the fridge instead of needing to buy cream.
ОтветитьChef teaches us an easy way to make an elegant soup <3
ОтветитьNo. Use potatoes
No sauté leeks
This is the first and only recipe of Jaques that I make better than he does....
I use 4 - 5 leeks, softened in butter, I add 4 cubed potatoes, chicken stock, S&P, simmer till cooked, remove from heat, blitz till smooth, nice thick consistancy, add cup of cream. Delicious.
Jaques recipe is too thin.
I am a big fan of his. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Jaques is such a legend. His cooking style taught me so much when I was growing up. Thank you for the memories.
ОтветитьI made this tonight - my wife said the best P & L soup ever. It's addictive. Potato flakes is the trick. Genius touch! The recipe could be adapted in so many ways too. Chef Pépin is a legend
Ответить❤❤❤❤love you Jaques pepins
ОтветитьHappy Cooking Jacques!
ОтветитьI wish you put up a recipe with actual potatoes 😳
ОтветитьLoved to hear Jacques encouraging folks to use the whole leek instead of just the white! The first time I made potato leek soup from Julia Child, I spent like $10 on leeks, most of which ended up in the garbage. I know I could have saved them for stock, but I wasn't into making stocks then. Loved how this recipe also used pantry staples and a few fresh (and not so fresh even) ingredients to make something really nice in like 10 minutes. I could see doing this trick, using a microwave to sweat the leeks.
ОтветитьIm suprised the leek cooked in 4 minutes in the liquid? No saute of the vegetables?
ОтветитьI could watch this gentleman boil water
ОтветитьThis is a great recipe!…Easy and delicious.
ОтветитьLeave it to the Master to make an elegant potato leek soup with instant potato flakes! Brilliant!! ❤️❤️I just Adore Chef Pepin!! Just needs a crusty baguette 🥖
ОтветитьUse a little bit of bacon like you would in a pea soup.
ОтветитьInteresting. Whenever I make leek and potato soup, I always chop up potatoes in small chunks then boil them in stock a few minutes before I add the leek. Then I mash most of the potatoes up to make the soup a bit thicker.
ОтветитьI realized that this recipe video is like a recap for those new people who discovered Jauques Pepin! I just already watched the Potato Leek soup from his More Fast Food My Way episodes and now I watched this version too.
Although I don't have instant mashed potatoes but I can use fresh potatoes that are diced and I'm good to go.
What a lousy recipe... Potato flakes???
Ответить❤
ОтветитьI wonder how many more
millions of people are
cooking at home because
of him. Making memories
that last a lifetime.
Jaques pepin along with Jullia etc.... Every chef who's ever been on television should thank them.
ОтветитьJust made this for lunch for wife and kids, and wow, so simple and amazing. The potato flakes trick was a pretty idea, too!
ОтветитьI was scrambling my brain tonight trying to think of something for dinner, my fridge is bare!
Well, I remembered this video and I just happened to have some soup base and half a packet of instant mashed potatoes! No leek or onion, but I had some dried onion and leftover ham, so I threw it all together, finished it with a knob of butter in lieu of cream, and it was rich, filling, and delicious enough to satisfy even my hard to please girlfriend 😁
Thank you for dinner, Chef Jacques!
This recipe is simple and very, very good!
ОтветитьI made this today and it is sooo yummy...very easy and very quick! I just wish leeks were $1 like he said instead of the $5 I had to pay! But, it was still an inexpensive soup.
ОтветитьWho knew... Chives have pretty purple flowers.
ОтветитьI tried your recipe, delicious and so fast and easy to make. Fantastic
ОтветитьGood God, he makes things so... easy! Viva Jacques Pepin!
ОтветитьWonderful to have access to the Classics. Thank you, KQED!
ОтветитьGlad to see u God bless
ОтветитьFantastic recipe and so simple!
ОтветитьGreat !!!!
ОтветитьJacques, I've watched you cooking for over thirty years. I've always been a fan, even when you had a half hour show that aired on Saturday mornings in my area back in the 80s. I first had Leek soup while on a tour in England. We were in a little town close to Wordworths cottage and I stopped for lunch in a little Cafe. I tried your recipe and I love it, even my grandson loved it, he's 23. I'll make this often. I love how you make delicious meals with little or no effort. Simple, not hard or complicated. Bon Appétit, Linda in Tennessee.
ОтветитьI didn’t have regular instant mashed potatoes but luckily found one with sour cream and chives in my pantry. Can’t wait to grow chives this spring!
ОтветитьHe still alive my grandma watched him in the 80's and 90's
ОтветитьI can't believe I never thought of using potato flakes before. What used to be a tedious chore is now a quick and easy soup to make. I prefer to sauté my leeks and scallions in butter first, then add chicken stock. I find 8 cups of stock with 2 cups of potato flakes works best.
ОтветитьI just made and didn’t turn out as nicely as I would have liked. I think the issue was the broth that I used I use better than bouillon and I think I’m going to stop because it’s terribly salty and actually doesn’t have a very nice flavor. It is vegan but vegetable broth should always be vegan. I’m going to try to make my own broth and I’m also going to change the potatoes that I use. I will look specifically for potato flakes. The other option is that I have some frozen mashed potatoes that I had made at another time and I am thinking those might work also, I used vegan heavy cream and I think the taste was just fine but I also think a good solid, creamy oat milk would be nice too
ОтветитьJust made this soup for lunch, simple and delicious. The instant mashed potato trick is great(Bob`s Red Mill) and works well. Also received your latest book for XMAS.Thank you Chef your the best.
ОтветитьHe’s one of the few who ‘give us permission’ to use the green part of the leek.
He really is a first rate chef/cook.
I feel justified for often using instant mash instead of corn flour when I want to thicken a soup now 😅
ОтветитьMerci beaucoup monsieur Pépin de nous partager une recette accessible à tous :)
ОтветитьLooks good 👍 and EASY 🤓
ОтветитьI just love his simple style
ОтветитьWhere is the Potato Jacques???
ОтветитьLove leeks
ОтветитьLove potato leek soup!!! Going to try this with some oat milk and veggie stock as I have a family history of Cancer so need to avoid the estrogen in dairy and Lead (Pb) in meat/bone broths. Thanks for posting
ОтветитьBeautiful and Delicious! Thank you Chef.
ОтветитьWhat on earth are POTATO FLAKES? 👀🤷♂️ Four decades cooking & never once heard of “potato flakes.”
ОтветитьFuck no. Hard believe he was a renowned chef. Zero depth there.
ОтветитьMr Jacques May we have a brief tour of your kitchen? I remember when Julia did it, it was fascinating!! I’m sure you use pretty much everything in there!! I love looking around while you’re filming in whatever location you are cooking in 💕❤️
