I’m gonna wager it’s some really stupid over the top fan fiction interpretation. Aaand I was right.

My take on it without any dramatics is that he’s portrayed as an impulsive, impatient character, and that’s reflected in the build of his hilt. The way wires are routed along the outside of the hilt seems very messy, like it was done without patience, unlike the more polished hilts we see wielded by others. And yeah, the venting could be seen as a quick workaround for improper setup.

Kylo Ren was the only good part of the sequel trilogy in my opinion, but there are some flawed stuff they did to his character. (Mostly in Last Jedi)

The difference between Vader and Kylo is that Vader knew exactly what he wanted, and Kylo had no idea what he wanted. I personally like the concept of Kylo’s immaturity, even if I don’t like the movies. Not only that, but George Lucas made it very clear from the OT that he wanted all lightsaber wielders have their own fighting style. Their fighting style reflects their personality, which is why I thought Kylo’s style fit him perfectly well.
